  1. That lot is huge and could easily be subdivided with an alley or small street separating it into two lots. The western part (as Habsfan mentioned) would be the tower project, and the eastern part would be for future development. The buildings around this lot (especially the south side) are very small, I believe around 3 or 4 floors. I think there would have to be some sort of a transitional effect. Architects, urban planners, what do you think?
  2. I wonder if these buildings could have been higher or would someone have complained that these buildings partially block the mountain/river view a very small amount. I guess there are no NIMBYs if there are no back yards!
  3. Does anybody know if a condo this expensive has been sold recently in Montreal? If nobody buys, does the price just keep going down? Deyanira, you seem to be in the know, how low can it go?
  4. Great pics! We don't often get to see this side of the city. You must have a pretty good zoom...
  5. The place where cruise ships dock now is next to a rusted out shed on an old pier. It's kind of embarassing; what a way to welcome tourists!
  6. As much as we look forward to seeing this great project completed, I bet the residents of phase 1 are really looking forward to the end of construction!
  7. 130 rooms and 31 parking spots... am I understanding this correctly?
  8. Does anybody know if this project is proposed for the aerial part of the actual train station, or would it be over the parking lot to the south, as in Cataclaw's vision tower (Phoenix)?
  9. I thought that the 1800 project was near the CCA and therefore just out of sight below (south of) the picture. The Rene-Levesque/Guy project is proposed for the parking lot just to the right ( geographical east / Montreal south) of the Maritime Plaza Hotel, as OursNoir pointed out.

    MLS Impact de Montréal

Why would Toronto have exclusive Canadian rights? I was always under the impression that competition and rivalry are what drive business up!
  11. What do you guys think, too much glass in the original design? I'm thinking the proposed design looks too red. They will probably choose a brick colour that more closely matches the current bricks (I hope!).
  12. Thanks for visiting the expo and taking pictures Gilbert. I had never seen the green roofs before. I hope they stay in the final design. Question: The building labeled "Cabinets de medecins/Medical Offices" is the Air Canada (formerly Zellers) building. Does anybody know where Air Canada will move their employees?
  13. Certainly much nicer than what was originally proposed for this lot!
  14. Perhaps once this project is built and the place across the street is completed, a new project could occupy the rest of the block. Something that would transition well from this project to the Complexe Desjardins/Hyatt Regency.
  15. Am I understanding correctly that the urban planning program is part of the management school? Shouldn't it be under a school of architecture or something related? "le meilleur programme d'urbanisme au Québec" according to whom? Based on what?
  16. The last firm I worked at had a 100% American English-speaking client list. Even though all the work was done in English, every employee had to be fluently bilingual E/F (i.e. there were written and oral exams) and everything about the company was bilingual (e.g. signage, employee manuals, and more). What do you guys think, fair compromise?

    Place Ville Marie

I never realized how nice the "place" or square was before the BDC building was built. Anybody know if the outside areas of PVM are going to be renovated? There are a lot of cracked blocks and slabs, and I think the space in general could be better used.
  18. Does the City of Montreal have the power to make that parking lot "illegal" and therefore force its closure, resulting in a no income/sale situation for the owner?
  19. Dude, WTF??? Pierre-Joseph-Olivier Chauveau, Louis-Olivier Taillon, Honoré Mercier, Lomer Gouin, Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, Adélard Godbout, Maurice Duplessis, Jean Lesage, Robert Bourassa, René Lévesque, Lucien Bouchard, Bernard Landry, etc. All these great anglophones, oops, wait, no, they're francophones. And that's only since 1867!
  20. Francely, je crois que le boulevard de Maisonneuve sera redirigé tel qu'indiqué sur le plan de Gilbert.
