  1. I've also heard that diplomats with 'diplomatic immunity' can't be issued parking tickets and can therefore park anywhere they want without worry. Any diplomats in here that can back that up?
  2. Why do the words "smallfat" appear on the front of the store? (in ErickMontreal's picture)
  3. Cool pic Phil. When was this picture taken? Should we be able to see the Sir George Simpson?
  4. Question regarding the Moscow construction: Doesn't building so many big buildings at once flood the market with floor space and lower rents?
  5. Won't that just delay construction and make the whole process last even longer? Idling trucks make more noise than trucks that come, dump, and go!
  6. Interesting design. But of all places, why there? This project could fit nicely in other parts of town, or even in the proposed neighbourhood, but not partly over the rail tracks and the highway ramps; it doesn't make any sense.
  7. Take a closer look at the Square. There aren't that many trees (about a dozen by my count). The square could be extended, especially east (as mentioned by others). That whole side is a waste of space, with those planter boxes and extra wide street/parking area. Phillips Square is not that small. The large base of the statue, large asphalt walkways and the small street market area take up most of the space. It's like there's too much going on in this square that quickly fills up with people at almost any time of day. It could be rearranged relatively easily...
  8. "In 1994-95 the exterior of the building, damaged by time, acid rain and the elements, was cleaned and painted, and windows were repaired; other major repairs took place in 1998-99." http://buildings.concordia.ca/sgw/hall.php With all the money going to the interior of the Hall building and to other buildings (and at the NDG campus), I doubt Hall will be getting any significant exterior improvements for the time being.
  9. Exactly. The George Washington Bridge is a bridge/highway system that brings traffic through Manhattan, not just to Manhattan. It is an 8-lane thoroughfare that connects New Jersey to the Bronx, with stop-overs on the island. This being said, can Montreal and Longueuil support more lanes for their respective sections of appraoches and highways? If so, then these would have to begin construction as soon as possible, to be ready before the new bridge.
  10. More development in China Town; awesome!
  11. Does anyone know if there will be new wagons too, or just new locomotives?

    POM - 10 étages (2011)

It would fit well between the 7 and 8 storey buildings on either side, assuming the design is appropriate...
  13. To anybody who knows a lot about tramways: I noticed the proposed "Old Montreal/Old Port" route proposed on the map begins and ends at parks. Is this because there needs to be a "turn-around" terminus built? Would part of the parks need to be appropriated for these?
  14. In about 3-5 years, this building will look like it's always been there! Nice integration.
  15. Does anyone else find the park/terasse of the Delta on Sherbrooke to be totally underused? What the heck are they thinking (or not thinking)? It's actually pretty nice and could easily be even nicer with a little work... It would be great for guests obviously, but that kind of place is big enough to be open to the public.
  16. Not one Canadian in the top 30?!? Does anyone have statistics regarding airport final destination traffic (i.e. no stop-overs)?
  17. Is there anything in the works for the corner of St-Laurent and de la Gauchetiere?
  18. Is it just me or did that take a long time? Regardless, the finished product looks nice.
  19. It would be interesting to have all or most of the consulates in Montreal's great Quartier International. That would give the area even more of an international flavour! Just dreaming here: This could warrant the construction of a United Nations-type complex, with accompanying plaza, heliport, etc. perhaps located in the PdlCI II...
  20. What did Lester Pearson have to do with Toronto Pearson International Airport? What did Jean Lesage have to do with Quebec Jean Lesage International Airport? Airports are not always named after someone who had a large impact on the airport, but rather they are named after someone who was from or had an impact on the area.
  21. The names of the sales people seem to have changed. And there's a website (not sure how new it is): http://www.900dmo.com
  22. I always wondered why Mirabel doesn't host a large-scale international air show. I went to the one in Quebec City this year (which was awesome and attended by tens of thousands of people) but the schedule was constantly interrupted by commercial flights. Imagine the scale of an air show at Mirabel! Plus I think Mirabel has a longer runway and plenty of parking space...
  23. That wall is about 4 floors below ground. Why wouldn't they build the parking lot full size?
