    Need a mentor

I would add that it takes time. You can either be an investor-tourist (short-term) or investor-citizen (long-term). And remember, financial independence can come in different forms. Are you looking to have a large sum of money to live off or have a steady flow of income to live from? These require drastically different investment strategies (i.e. buying income property vs. receiving capital gains on transactions). I only know two people who live off their real estate investments, and they're both 3rd generation landlords and have at least 200 doors each. And they work a lot! (but that might be more their personalities than out of necessity)
  2. I feel like I'm missing part of the picture... Shouldn't it be the future owner(s) of the building that need(s) to find money, rather than its future tenants? Or is it to pay for leasehold improvements? Any clarification would be appreciated! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. McGill University is not under-spaced, it is over-filled. The financially responsible thing to do is slowly roll back enrollment over the next ten years, shifting towards a greater proportion of graduate students. The road to growing to nearly 40,000 students was purely a chase for revenue, unfortunately at the cost of quality. That era is thankfully over. The RVH is a pipe dream. I think in the end it will become a multi-use, multi-partner area that will benefit the whole city, including of course McGill University. It's a great opportunity for a great community project! 4. Where is that small fort? In the picture after the sailors clock tower and before the Bonaventure expressway... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. I noticed that the new metro maps located in the wagons now refer to Square-Victoria-OACI, so it would seem that the station did officially change name. Here's an article: http://quebec.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/04/03/changement-nom-metro-square-victoria_n_5082992.html Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. In my opinion, as an insider, this would be the greatest financial fiasco in a Quebec University's history, far beyond Ilot Voyageur. Like, by a factor of 10 or 15 times worse. The business proposal is so unrealistic and it's not even aligned with the long term plan of the University. The cost to taxpayers would be astronomical, with an expected return on investment and payback period that makes the Olympic Stadium look like the best public works project in history. Mark my words, this can only lead to disaster. Instead, let's see if we (McGill) can deliver on our commitment to the Quartier de l'Innovation. So far, all I've seen is empty promises and cocktails...

    Gare Viger

Is the Gare Berri the circus school adjacent to the elevated portion of Notre-Dame?
  8. The Q Burger location seems to be the back alley of the new Q...
  9. Wow, there's going to be a Lorem Ipsum on St-Hubert?!? Didn't think I'd ever see that. And why 3 floors? Does the mezzanine at the top not count?
  10. McGill's done it a few times at a cost of tens of millions of dollars each time. I'm not sure about private conversions though, perhaps those are done more "on the cheap". Also, let's not forget there is a big difference between student residences (dorms, with private or shared bathrooms, common areas, and little or no kitchen areas - all dining is done at dining halls) and student apartments (self-contained units with private bathrooms, kitchen facilities, etc.). This may affect cost as well.
  11. If you want to work outside Canada "someday", that will depend more on the work experience you gain between obtaining your BCOM and that "someday". I would highly recommend going to McGill, especially if you are considering the honors finance program or graduate or professional studies (e.g. Law) after the BCOM. Beyond the academic experience, the fact that McGill is located adjacent to the CBD and is a great campus really make it worthwhile. Disclaimer: I am a full time employee at McGill, as well as being a graduate student in the Faculty of Management.
  12. I think that's the tower for the toboggan run. Looks like the slide starts at the top of the tower.
  13. I bought a new washer and dryer recently and the panels are in English and French. Not even a sticker, the actual panel. I assumed that this was already standard practice. Seems so simple. Will car dashboards be next?
