  1. Thing is, isn't Norway's oil deep sea only?
  2. Guess this will go into the never will see light of day category. Guess we should do the same with the Windsor tower.

Who would label Montreal as Paris?
  4. I was doing some research on this whole "I love Scandinavia" thing. - Norway (pop. 4.85 mil) - 45% of its exports come from oil/gas, which is about 20% of the total GDP of the country. They also use hydro-electric power. Thing is with Norway they have deep-water drilling for oil, which people here would dislike. Also there is some mining in Norway. There is one company that mines for Molybdenum. - Iceland (pop. 319000) - Most of its energy comes from hydro and also thermal energy (quite easy when you have volcanos). Only mineral/metal they have from what I recall is, aluminium. As for income tax rates, it is quite bizarre. They get taxed on what they make on a monthly basis REF. Thing is, people here (environmentalists), dislike hydro electric dams, seeing it destroys large areas of an ecosystem. Do we need more electricity in this province? Not sure, but I am leaning towards no, seeing if we needed more, we wouldn't be selling to Vermont. Also Iceland and Norways, sales taxes are quite high compared to ours. I wonder if these students, are willing to fork over 25% GST/PST instead of the 15% GST/PST that is in place now. Just imagine, how much higher our gas prices would be if it was 25% and not 15% tax. I have a feeling many of us, would start using public transit or go fully-electric (10+ years until Hydro-Quebec has more charging stations around). What is interesting though, Quebec and Norway GDP are quite similar. $6.8 billion dollars in 2010 came from exporting minerals. What is interesting, the total amount of exports per year from Quebec is about $59 billion. No minerals exports, would push down our export to about $52-$53 billion. Also the loss of 15,000 jobs in that sector. Not sure if people want that kind of burden, pushing down on our economy. Plus that means more people, picking up unemployment, more people looking for jobs and more people not paying taxes for the years to come. I do understand we need to protect our environment, but if we went back to the whole barter system, I see no use for 7 billion of us. Anyway, sometimes it isn't always greener on the other side Also on another note, not sure if this comment should be here or in the other thread in the political section. Malek you have my blessing, if you move this comment.
  5. I walked past it today. Man that place needs some TLC. I just wonder how much, it would cost the city to fix it up and turn it into a museum or something. I know down the street in one of the ETS buildings, that used to be part of the brewery, is now a museum of sorts (didn't really go and check out the window display).
  6. I wonder what it looks like. I know the Rothschild and Pictet offices in Montreal are quite nice. One thing the BMO office is 9000 sq.ft larger than the Pictet office Pictet (lobby)
  7. What a shame. Wouldn't it be something, producing our own oil and exporting it also? Hydro-Quebec petrol stations + charging stations Now I know why my Petrolia stock, went down the toilet.
  8. Isn't that something. We get a shout out like that, yet none of our restaurants have any Michelin-stars or be in "The World's 50 Best Restaurants". Anyway it is something, plus what is funny I have walked / drove by there so many times, I have yet to go. Plus I know I started a topic a while back, on this place.
  9. The guys I work with are going to have a cow, when they see one of the guys that won. On another note, I met Greg Isenberg yesterday, he seems like a pretty chill guy.
  10. Another Metro? The other one is just 900 meters away on De La Montagne & Notre Dame O. I guess 900 meters is a little out of the way. I wonder why Metro didn't opt-out and just open another 5 Saisons in this location? Seeing there is only 2 locations in the city, guess it might not be the neighbourhood for that?
  11. An extra $2.08 billion a year over a 25 year period would be nice. Plus I think Montreal GDP grows at around $2 billion per year. Not sure how many cities in the world see $4 billion per year coming in, there is probably a few.
  12. The condo fees are not that bad. It seems like a really nice project.
  13. I totally forgot about this rendering.
  14. Read more: http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Couche+Tard+Norway+Statoil+Fuel+billion/6477920/story.html#ixzz1sOlAifoJ Nice to see Couche-Tard is slowly expanding into Europe. I wonder if they will ever try South America or Asia? I also wonder if they will attempt to buy-out Casey's General Store again in the future.
  15. It will look so empty with nothing there.
  16. I forgot what website I was on yesterday and there was an ad for this development
  17. That is a pretty nice growth, almost 1% per year. I wonder how Montreal compares to other cities, because I remember the Montreal metro area, was ranked 81st largest metro area (2006), right behind Monterrey, Mexico. City Mayors - Statistics
  18. It is now slated to open this Spring, but I will believe it when I see it. I think this project has been going on for 3-4 years now? Seeing somewhere on their website they are talking about C2-MTL and they have an image of this building with a red line (photoshopped in) acting as a red carpet.
  19. So what I can tell from Google Maps, they are thinking of taking down the building that is already at 620 Saint Paul. Don't get me wrong, this looks like a nice project.
  20. It will make a nice addition, if it does happen.
  21. Hydro Quebec Charging Cost Hydro is planning on charging 0.0777 cents per kWh. You still get a huge savings over a gas car, because of the gas prices at the moment. Only thing is, there aren't that many charging stations in or around Montreal. You are practically stuck charging at home or at work.
