    New Nats logo

These new uniforms are a disgrace. An insult even. I hope the Nationals will be bottom-feeders in the NL east until their already meager fanbase dies out completely. It wouldn't be the first baseball team Washington has lost (Washington Senators- I think).

Not that I believe the team will be moved, but I find the speculation somewhat troubling. What prevents any owner from walking in and deciding to move the team to... Waterloo, or Hamilton (*cough*)? After the loss of the Expos and F1 (granted neither were as large of an institution as the Habs), are we really confident in City Hall or the government for that matter, to do all that is necessary to absolutely keep the team in Montreal? That said, once again, I don't believe the team will be moved. I don't see a scenario in which an owner could even profit from moving the team to another city (without a team), most of which are smaller markets, anyways.

    Canadiens de Montréal

Absolutely in agreement. Take a team like the St. Louis Blues, who have been decimated by injury this season, and who are still playing their hearts out to try and make the playoffs. I would rather have their lineup at this point, than ours. It is a sorry sight to watch the Habs, of late. They will always be my team, but this is getting to the point of embarrassment. What bothers me even more, is their relentless marketing of the 100th anniversary. Make a shirt for 30 cents, slap a "100e" logo on it and charge 40 bucks. What's even worse is that they fly off the shelf. With profit like that, (not to mention selling-out every game) what is the real motivation on the part of the management to put a winning team on the ice?
  6. correction: he is a francophobe (he is certainly not a francophile)
  7. I really don't think that Don Cherry is adored in the Rest of Canada anymore. His reign is coming to an end. If you look at the message boards on the CBC, people are getting increasingly annoyed, on a weekly basis, with every ridiculous comment he makes. Perhaps he was once adored, but that time seems to be over. It's funny how fickle Don Cherry can be. A couple of years ago, he slams Sidney Crosby, and now he's a "good Canadian boy". Not only is Cherry a notorious francophile, but he's also quite anti-European, and I think everybody is tired of his slanted, borderline 19th century point of view. I'm certain that if Ovechkin had been born in Saskatchewan, Don Cherry would have nothing to say, on the matter.
  8. ou est-ce que c'est juste un gros lot?
  12. Apparently (according to the Conseil du Patrimoine de Montreal), this would block the view of the mountain from the intersection next to which is would be located, as well as the view of the river from Cedar and Cote-des-Neiges. Will NIMBYs go so far as to destroy a proposal for student residences?
  13. les chiffres de montrealinternational pour le CMA: http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:HSgW8nQGolQJ:www.montrealinternational.com/en/chiffres/Outlook/C_Croissance_de_la_population_Montr%C3%A9al_2007-2012_ANG.xls+montreal+population&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=16&gl=ca
  15. any chance anything relatively tall would be built in that area? I'm not certain as to what the height limits are there, but since the elevation is lower, there shouldn't be a problem.
  16. selon les nouveaux rendus, les tours semblent avoir 30 etages. seems like its a small step in the right direction (said with cautious optimism), given that every other condo building seems to have 23-28 floors.

    Expos de Montréal

It was a sad day, when the Expos left town. I remember being at the last home game - it was the first time I had ever sat in the upper deck. There was an out pour of emotion that night, and an out pour of garbage that was thrown on the field, aimed at the Marlins' players.
  22. I don't think there will a metro in Montreal West/C.S.L anytime soon. There was talk a few years back of even shutting down the train station because of the noise... "les snobs" wouldn't go for it.
  23. great news. I smell a labour day classic: "bataille du quebec"
  24. Bonjour tout le monde I've been on mtlurb for a few months now (its a truly interesting forum) and i figure that this is an appropriate subject to comment on: En lisant cette article je me demande s'il y a quelque chose qu'on peut faire pour que la ville nous entend. Also, if such height limits were passed, what kind of effect would this have on suburban office markets, off-island? Are there any notable height restrictions in Laval/Longueuil that would prevent a high-rise to go up there?
