  1. Wow. I was shocked when I heard. I mean, everybody knew he was ill, but he had this spirit to him, this aura, that he just couldn't be defeated. He brought something new to politics. An optimism and an energy that seems to be increasingly rare in what seems to be an increasingly cynical national forum. For that reason, regardless of one's voting intentions, this was a loss for many. It should be interesting to see what the fallout from this brings...

Maintenant Tom Little cherche une résidence ici. C'est de mauvaises nouvelles ca? This is old news, just respun. The real news will be if/when the HQ actually leaves.
  4. This is fantastic! Really nice point of entry to the Sherbrooke St. canyon, from the east/great culmination to the Sherbrooke St. canyon, from the west. ^ Agreed. I'm thrilled that they're preserving the existing building. Thanks for sharing, GDS!
I mean, if the site is zoned for maximum height, and CF is confident in the project, wouldn't it make sense, if they decided to go with only one tower? Just speculation...
  7. ^ I definitely agree, regarding the Cadillac-Fairview towers. This is basically the first development of its kind (with regards to scale and appearance) that we may see in this city. What would bother me is if it became the norm and we saw 50 of these towers scrunched together, as in Toronto or Vancouver. As long as we maintain some sort of variety, I'll be happy to see these towers rise into our skyline.
  8. I guess the 10 storey office building they're referring to is the office portion of Altoria. It seems to fit the description.
  9. Took a walk around the U-de-M campus on Sunday night: <a href=" " title="Leafy Sunset by rufsjrdk, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3164/5851744460_d894087e0f.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Leafy Sunset"></a> <a href=" " title="U-de-M 046 by rufsjrdk, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2726/5851166457_8b6dd84f28.jpg" width="500" height="339" alt="U-de-M 046"></a> <a href=" " title="U-de-M_3 by rufsjrdk, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3366/5851161719_1e40314ccb.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="U-de-M_3"></a> <a href=" " title="U-de-M_1 by rufsjrdk, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2474/5851710606_f38b30572a.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="U-de-M_1"></a>
  11. Belles photos, JFrosty! Experimenting with some HDR today:
  12. Most of downtown is already about 20m above sea-level, so the 232.5m limit actually limits buildings to about 210-215m max. Le 1000, 1250 R.-L, PVM etc. are already pretty close to their respective height limits, given the elevation of the land on which they are built on. My guess is, if something were built at ~215m, on this site, it wouldn't really dominate the skyline. It would probably appear as tall as Le 1000, viewed from the south, and maybe as tall as 1250 R.-L, viewed from the west. I'm wondering if it would be possible to swing a 225-240m building, if the promoter promised parks/incentives for the city.
  14. Yep, picture is tagged as Westmount. Nonetheless, that's not my point. All I'm saying is that many streets such as St. Laurent used to have bilingual signage, which may be, in part, why many older anglophones and older anglophone institutions sometimes use anglophone street names/translations.
  15. To be fair, it's not a complete butchery of street names on the part of old-timer anglophones, when they make a translation, simply because many of these streets were at one time, bilingual. Many many years ago, some street signs were bilingual- St.Laurent/St. Lawrence. I couldn't find a picture of that one, but I did come across one of our beloved Ste-Catherine: -by christopher dewolf on flickr
  16. Par moi, l'été dernier: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5301/5653564307_d303024c3f.jpg' alt='5653564307_d303024c3f.jpg'> Montreal 296 by rufsjrdk, on Flickr[/img]
  17. This development, as it stands, while not that tall, would still be a big skyline-changer. Prime positioning. Just imagine if these were built along with something significant on the 1300 R.-L site!
  18. Toronto continues to spread its web of global influence.
  20. I was walking along Sherbrooke last night and noticed some equipment, near the site. I'm not too sure was it was- it looked like a small wrecking ball crane. Either way, it looks like there may be some activity. Can anyone confirm this?
