Il est question de prolonger le délai pour la construction sur le site. Je vais essayer d'y aller car il vont parler du projet du 2229 Sainte-Catherine est, ainsi que quelques autres projets.

This evening, the demolition committee refused to give the project yet another 2 yr extention.

 

The original project had already been extended in the past. The city will therefore cash the cheque it held for 1.25 millions$. That is not as surprising (or as much) as it sounds because the city would have raked in a lot more than that had they not approved the demolition permit years ago, and the Spectrum not been razed...

 

The orignal plan was for a 4 story building, but today the city presented a rendering showing a new project consisting of 2 towers ( 11 & 33 stories) that would also include a section on Jeanne-Mance. Looks like the image in the other thread. The promoter did not submit the demolition requests for the small buildngs next to the small parking lot. That certainly didn't help in convincing the city of their intentions to proceed with the project.

 

Moral of the story

Demolish quickly, don't build the project, save loads of money.

 

The city did mention in their reasons for the refusal, the fact that the site was an important & strategic part of the QDS. Maybe if the amount held was a lot larger (or equivalent to the taxes owed for a lot with a building on it) we might have a projet today or kept our beloved Spectrum a few years longer.
