  1. Please put these commie blocks in the Under Construction section. Excavation has begun on both foundations.
  2. Notice how they didn't actually SHOW any men in the Vancouver pic?
  3. I do agree with you to a certain extent but how exactly is this different from the vast majority of other newly built malls? These lifestyle centers and shopping malls in general take so much space, there is just no way new ones can be built within walking / biking distance of "downtown" areas. They need to be built in fields on the outskirts of town. Metropolis at Metrotown in BC is one of the few that bucks this trend. I actually think that lifestyle centers ENCOURAGE walking and getting some fresh air. Unfortunately, some like the one in Boisbriand are just horribly laid out and people do have to use their cars to get from one store to another. At Dix 30 and to a lesser extent the Centrepolis in Laval, people park their cars and then WALK between the stores. Devimco encouraged this through the use of limited parking spaces within the center of DIX 30 while the majority of the cars park closer to the big box stores around the periphery of the main shopping strip. From what I have seen of the Phase IV plans, it will have a layout very similar to Phase I's pedestrian street concept and will use an extension of the Wal Mart parking lot for cars. Once again, encouraging people to walk and "discover".
  4. Actually, if this project is STILL subject to city approval it shouldn't be in the Approved section, should it?
  5. "The first new major retail project to finally see the light of day in GriffinTown." That right there really says it all, doesn't it?
  6. Anyone know why there is a whole wall on this building devoid of any windows? It looks a bit odd, especially before the cover up the ugly-looking concrete.
  7. Copper sheeting. Someone's got money...
  8. There's a placard for it on the corner of Ottawa and Dalhousie streets (already knocked down).
  9. Ah. They were't working for me. Thanks. EDIT: I meant official renderings. Not something from the Panzini site.
  10. A hotel is not a long term residence. Still no renderings?
  11. Oh no. More asphalt on a shifting roadway made of compacted aggregate. Will they never learn?
  12. I totally agree with it though. It seems like you don't remember how every other project like this (l'Acadie circle, boul. St Laurent, et all) ended in monumental cock-ups. What will make this one different? For some reason people seem to think this will spur on development. Development of what exactly? More low-priced, brown brick condos that won't sell due to their proximity to the train tracks. Surely not these gleaming highrises the renderings love to show since commercial real-estate is obviously not in full-on demand and you know the NIMBYs will have something to say about THAT. The article also brings up an excellent point about the train tracks. They're a scar that cuts across the urban fabric of the city and nothing can be done about them. As I mentioned above, they will definately stunt development on the wester side of this project. Another good point is the cost overruns which can and will be associated with this project. $600 million? Yeah right, once all the usual cronies are paid we'll be lucky to get out of this with a billion spent and a project that sits right up there with the Big Owe when it comes to white elephant status. The way I see it, I am fed up with all this talk we seem to love here in Montreal. There are two options in my books: 1: Shut up and build the thing 2: Don't do anything and let it crumble Sadly, neither seems to happen here in Quebec. Why? Because construction happens at a snail-like pace or they launch millions of dollars worth of studies BEFORE the structure crumbles only to not have an option ready WHEN it crumbles.
  13. The sales office looks like a pawn shop. That says a lot about the project...
  14. White Elephant. I can only imagine what that white exterior will look like after 10 years of pollution.
  15. I don't care what it looks like...as long as it gets built. However, am I the only one who seems something odd about the scale of the boat?
  16. This project really excites me simply because the area needs a serious facelift. I always found it was a shame that Le Faubourg regressed so much in the last decade or so. Hopefully this will will bring some life back to the area.
  17. I am really hoping that the Shriner's building's design is indicative of the rest of the structure.
