GM is the Guy Metro building, on the southeast corner of Guy and de Masionneuve and LB is the Library building on the south side of de Maisonneuver between Mackay and Bishop. The Library building is already connected underground to the Hall biulding on the north side of de Maisonneuve and the Guy Metro building is connected to the new EV building just to the south of it, which in turn is connected to the new John Molson building on the other side of Guy street. This new tunnel will allow students to move betweetn the 4 largest building and the metro without going outside.

No word from the city about this in any publication for Place Bethune but the Concordia website gave me this info: From Jan. 12 until Oct. 30 work will begin on the tunnel linking the GM and LB buildings. The tunnel will be roughly 120 metres long and 4 metres wide. The work will start at GM Building just east of the main entrance and move progressively east to join the existing LB tunnel. Piling work going east from the GM Building from Jan 12 until April will be the noisiest period. After that, the excavation work from February until May 2009 will begin, starting from the GM building moving east. The next stage will be the concrete work starting in March until September 2009. The portion west of Mackay will be completed by September 2009. The portion east of Mackay will be completed by Oct. 2009. The City will then complete the south side of Place Bethune taking until Dec. 2009. The opening of the tunnel is planned for early December 2009. Again, as in all construction work, the dates are subject to change. http://news.concordia.ca/special_note/013982.shtml
  3. Is there construction on the whole site yet, or still just where Bens used to be?
  4. I was in the old port a week ago and there was some construction going on at the far end of Alexandria Pier. It looked like they were replacing the alluminum siding with all glass walls, maybe so sort of waiting room/lookout over the river. If they redo the whole thing like that, it would look amazing.
  5. I expected as much, it seems like it would be a busy line. One day passenger trains here will have priority like in Europe, but I think that may be a long way off
  6. Sorry to push my own idea's, but I've been sitting on this map for a while. It's a new train line on the south shore using existing rails. If the line was electrified, it could become very popular, it reaches most of the south short and gives a direct route to bonaventure. I don't know how many freight trains currently run on the rails. My suggestions for the stations are: Station Saint-Lambert (existing) Station Jacques-Cartier (proposed by Cataclaw) Station de Gaulle Station Portage Station Beausejour Station Grande-allee Station Chevrier (terminus autobus) Station Rome Station Matte Station Saint-Jean Feel free to include it in your plan, some of it, or just ignore it. I'm just posting it.
  7. The promoter has applied for a demolition permit. It's looks like they are serious now about getting this project off the ground. http://applicatif.ville.montreal.qc.ca/som-fr/pdf_avis/pdfav7152.pdf
  8. A public notice from the ville de montreal says that the lot was sold to a numbered company Sale to 9181-3451 Québec inc. of immovables southeast of the intersection of Rue University and Rue Cathcart, in Ville-Marie borough, made up of lots 1 515 512 and 1 515 513 in the cadastre of Québec, having an area of 320.3 m2, for $1 000 000. http://applicatif.ville.montreal.qc.ca/som-en/pdf_avis/pdfav7195.pdf Vente à 9181-3451 Québec inc. des immeubles situés au sud-est de l'intersection des rues University et Cathcart dans l’arrondissement de Ville-Marie, constitués des lots 1 515 512 et 1 515 513 du cadastre du Québec, d'une superficie de 320,3 m2, pour 1 000 000 $ http://applicatif.ville.montreal.qc.ca/som-fr/pdf_avis/pdfav7194.pdf I don't know if it's good news or bad news, but it's news none the less.
  9. Yes that's the one I was talking about. Too bad on it probably being cancelled. And I guess 77 st.cathernine ouest is something, new. Hopefully some nice.
  10. If I remember correctly, the empty lot next to the building was supposed to be a eco-friendly building made of recycled materials, LEED certified and carbon neutral, the whole nine yards, as a showcase for new green technologies in design and building. So maybe they are tearing down that buiding to expand the plans. I thought there was already a thread about it, but I couldn't find it.
  11. Just a passing thought, it would have been nice if they put an open-air metro entrance, like the Guimard one at Sqaure-Victoria.
  12. The inside has been gutted and they were taking the BENS sign down today. it won't be long....
  13. The JMSB building is set to open in the fall. Also, has anyone else seen the new street lights along de Maisonneuve between Peel and Guy. They replaced the old sodium lights, orange, with LEDs, white light. The new post also have a light over the sidewalk in addition to the usual one over the street, makes for a nice effect at night.

  15. It's good to see work progressing. Also, I drove by the other day and it appears the building on the corner of Viger and St. Laurent is undergoing a renovation. I was also wondering, who is in change of maintaining the arches and statues at the entrance of Chinatown, they seem a little run-down. I wonder if with this new construction, the city will put some money into redoing them.
  16. Just since last summer. And half the building has been slowly torn down so I'm still hoping
  17. There are alot of empty lots around there, it's good to see something going up. There is also an old factory on Marcel-Laurin being torn down to make a medical ceter.
  18. I like idea of bicycle and pedestrian access to Nun's Island, and I guess a road for emergency is always usefull. But if I lived in Verdun I would never want that bridge to be open to cars. Or maybe if it is only open on off peak hours, keep out the rush hour travelers but give the daytime shopper an easy way to verdun.
  19. It is a new ramp to ease traffic on sherbrooke when the Mcgill superhospital opens on the old glen yards. De Maisonneuve will be two directions from the ramp to allow access to the new hospital.
  20. What is that reflective building at the corner of Jeanne-Mance and St Cath?
  21. It must be fall 2008. 2009 is a long time to wait for a 9 storey building. But then again....
  22. $30,000 to join and $8,000 a year. But I'm an employee so I golf for free
  23. There is a HABS flag on the crane at Concordia's John Molson building too
