    From what I understand, this is a 1952 addition, hence "not historical". You can clearly see it on one of my earlier pictures. I found this very interesting blog entry on Avant L'autoroute that details the history of this site. Here is the 2008 OCPM report which provides accurate details (including shadow casting!) about the then-approved project. Only the 1892 original building is to be preserved and restored. Some balconies will also be rebuilt as they used to be. The 1911 wing also looks like it will be torn down. In fact they might just tear down the whole thing and rebuild it from scratch, for soundproofing and generally bring everything up-to-code. I'm just surprised as you are that work resumed out of nowhere. I wouldn't yet move this out of "cancelled", maybe this was a demolition contract already established that they couldn't back out of? (I don't know much about these things).

    Please don't misunderstand me. Go there in person. Try to read this big and ugly thing. Enjoy your torticollis. And of course it's surprising that Quebec's largest English-language university would only have French signage. We're talking about branding here, this logo isn't even their regular one. I just find it bizarre all around.

    More frontage getting torn down. No pics, but the Canadian Tire is completely revamping its entrance/cash area. New dark tiles and probably more self-checkout lanes.

    Guy Concordia is still a cockroach paradise, but we're finally getting somewhere with the renovations. Although it's really hard to read what it says... plus it's only French (for now?)

    I'm just wondering if people actually live there, or if this project was successful overall. It always looks dead. Couche-Tard closed and Peace Park is a no-no after sundown. The whole Sainte-Catherine / Rene-Levesque / St-Laurent / Berri area is highly depressing, despite all the new condo projects. Probably my least favourite spot in Montreal.

    Right after taking these pics I witnessed a bum brawl at Concorde/Bleury (no pics sorry) Anyway it's a tight fit but at least residents will have nice views of the beautiful Caron Building. They don't make 'em like that no more, no sir.

    Should have been, maybe, but I think peekay's photoshop is fairly accurate. The condo tower is about twice as tall as the base from what I understand.

    5 Saisons grand reopening is August 15th. This whole project looked very closed to completion during construction holiday. Sidewalk on Maisonneuve seems three times as wide as before.
