The worst is that the Seville is... what it is... it has been held back for decades because of the NIMBY idiots, and as a result, has pretty much killed the neighborhood as its rot has metastized around, like on the other side of the street with the (empty) Wendy's that looks like it came out of the bad parts of Fallujah, Iraq in 2005... even a NIMBY should notice that their property value has been chopped in half from this and the environment they are living in is garbage... there isn't even anything to do with "historical building" since the building has deteriorated to the point where it is unsaveable...

NIMBY's are not unique to Montreal. In the last decade, they have halted half the new development in downtown Boston. There is now a proposed by-law in Boston that no new building can cast a shadow on any existing green space!!!!

Do these imbeciles understand what they're proposing? In winter, an hour before sunset, even a 1-storey building can totally cover a small park with its shadow! I guess Boston will never see anything built ever again.

These activists studied this! They had their members stationed at key greenspaces to measure the amount of shadow that buildings cast on 12/21/2009. They then projected the shadows that various proposed buildings would cast!

On the plus side, there are still a few mentally healthy people in Boston who are opposing this by-law.

I propose that such bylaw should be amended to not allow any person to cast a shadow on the green space as well :D

You've surely noticed that the Texan restaurant has been demolished and the wrecking ball awaits the neighbouring buildings as well, including the Seville Theatre. We don't have much faith in the project that's being built there. It's too tall and tall buildings aren't street friendly because the lobbies are generally stuffed with elevators and pillars, so there's no real room for mom and pop streetscrape stuff.
