  1. When someone is willing to work and someone is willing to pay for their work in this economy, and some goons will stop them from doing so, well then that's just sad and ridiculous. And counter-productive for society as a whole. That's what I have a problem with. I have a problem with the laws in place that dictate that if a majority of workers want to strike, then everyone is forced to strike whether they like it or not. Anyway I have seen so many people at work this week... Someone told me that companies that want their employees to keep working will just pay the fines (at best) or bribe the inspectors (at worst). And the Italians... They don't give a damn. Would you mess with a construction site managed by Italians?
  2. Give me $6 "crisse de tacos" over a $15 plate of boring food at St-Hubert et al any day... However I agree that more options should be offered beyond what the city's "fonctionnaires" deem acceptable. If a guy wants to sell $2 hot dogs and there's someone to buy them, then what's the harm.
  3. Great more Karl Fischer crap
  4. Why would construction workers have privileges that others don't have? Construction wages should be determined by supply and demand, end of discussion. Are hairdressers protected by a union? No they work weekends and if they charge too much you'll go somewhere else, they can't decide to all strike simultaneously and paralyze the whole province, it's about time the gov't did something
  5. C'est pas une raison pour laisser passer ça au Canada parce que d'autres ailleurs dans le monde ont des traditions tribales
  6. A plumber was supposed to come by my house today. I've just been told that he didn't show up because others in his crew were threatened and some striking construction workers attacked their trucks so the company decided to give everyone a day off. What a bunch of tribal f*cks. Although nothing really surprises me anymore in this ass backwards "nation"
  7. I saw a dozen of them at work on a condo this morning. Strike? Ain't nobody got time for that
  8. Even self-employed construction workers? If you're self-employed aren't you deciding your schedule and what you charge... Why would you give a flying f*** about what the union thinks What happens to them if they decide to show up at a client's tomorrow?
  9. Which construction workers are represented by this union? If you have a contractor working on a residential property are the workers still allowed to show up tomorrow morning? Seems ridiculous to me that these people can take the whole province hostage.
  10. They will have Armani Casa furniture ($$$$$) in the common areas as per their website.
  11. That's cool... I guess they will all get their own section to paint. But I fail to see how that will help them move condos. As a buyer I wouldn't like to see my money is being spent on such frivolous things. They should commission a permanent piece from a well-known artist instead and put it in the lobby or courtyard once the building is completed, at least that would add value to the whole thing.
  12. It will probably be used as a giant billboard, that's all. I doubt they would put this structure up just to hide construction work on the sales office.
  13. Newsflash the people that built the Lachine Canal are all dead. Besides your idea makes no sense why would the owner build a public amenity?
  14. That building (St-Régis) is a beauty both inside and out. And the ceiling heights are really impressive too. $2.5M is quite cheap IMO considering this unit has 5,000 sq. ft. of living space + a 2,000 sq. ft. rooftop terrace. I think units in the building have a hard time selling because there's no indoor parking (although you can get an arrangement with St-James across the street to valet your car but that must get expensive pretty quickly)
  15. It's not like 215 Redfern is the only building in Westmount, for those prices you could look into buildings with much better views/location. For example #1603 in 1 Wood sold for $1.425M 3 months ago, and has 3 bedrooms, 2,249 sq. ft. net, 2 garages and panoramic mountain views. Meanwhile #410 in 215 Redfern (2 bedrooms, 2,261 sq. ft. net) is asking $1.8M ($1.411M + $80k per parking space + TPS/TVQ). Yes I understand there are improvements to be made in 1 Wood #1603 but $250k should be more than enough for a new kitchen and 2 1/2 bathrooms... And in the case of 1 Wood, you get much better mountain views from the 16th floor than the 4th floor unit in 215 Redfern + you can move in today instead of making a 10% deposit now and having to find other accommodations in the meantime. And overall 1 Wood is arguably more prestigious than 215 Redfern will ever be. Just my 2 cents.
  16. I think "market" is about more than just headcount. There is a finite amount that each can spend on live entertainment in a year. Now think about all the opportunities to spend $$$ we already have! Canadiens, Alouettes, Impact, Rogers Cup, F1, Juste pour Rire, Festival de Jazz, Montreal en Lumiere, UFC, boxing, NASCAR, OSM/PdA, numerous concerts at Bell Centre (eg Madonna, Barbra Streisand, stand-up) and I'm probably forgetting a few. I've never been to Cleveland but I doubt they have so many options in terms of live entertainment and festivals. If the Expos come back the money to spend on tickets will have to come from somewhere! Same for corporations they don't have unlimited funds to spend on luxury boxes! And let's face it baseball is wayyyy more popular south of the border. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Expos come back but I'm not holding my breath.
  17. Why do you "hate" them? They're just designers who make money off rich people's insecurities by selling them expensive frocks - some people spend money on cars, some people spend money on wine, some people travel, who are we to judge how people spend their discretionary income?
  18. They advertise in La Presse on a weekly basis, why are they having so much trouble selling leftover units when so many other projects of lesser quality are selling out? According to their ad today, they have condos starting at $300K and the smallest leftover unit I could find is 831 sq. ft. which is not too bad considering a unit of this size would sell for $500K+ in Avenue et al. The location is not as good (quite far East) but you're close to St-Denis which is very nice, build quality and amenities are top notch, neighbors tend to be older and owners (as opposed to renters) - plus you can move in immediately. Anyone have an idea?
  19. HAHAHA la quétaine I love it I'm dying!! For my part, this building will forever be known as la quétaine! What a terrible name. They should hire someone competent to take care of branding/marketing/sales instead of using their brother-in-law/third cousin/god knows who. And don't get me started on QR codes.
  20. The best location IMO would be between Wellington/Bridge/Mill Streets (across the street from Costco) - there's enough space in there to fit Yankee Stadium, nice views of the skyline plus a waterfront promenade could be built - and it would fit in nicely with the proposed Bonaventure project. Now can a small market like Montreal support an MLB team, that's another story.
  21. Just looked up the lot between Roccabella I & II and Avenue it sold for $3.3M in 2005 and again in 2012 for $10.2M; that's a CAGR of 17.49% (even more if they used borrowed funds) not including the revenue from the parking lot!!
