  1. They're putting up new banners on the building this morning! Here's the official website: http://levictoire.ca/
  2. Just trying to figure out something here. This is the view from Gauchetiere / Drummond, right? Does the base of the building stretch all the way to de la Montagne? Is there a possibility for a second tower on top of this?
  3. Why are the "dfsarch" and "lemaylab" designs so different? Which one will it be? Either way, that's gonna eat up part of the parking lot corner maisonneuve/montagne? fine by me!! In sort of related question, who owns the decrepit old building next to the Salvation Army citadel? On Drummond, and it stretches all the way to Stanley. Who was its last tenant? It's been shuttered for years.
  4. Doesn't really answer my question, but that's still really cool! Reminds me of Japan, wonder if existing technology already exists in Montreal.
  5. I'm curious to know about the parking involved with this building. How can they dig out 3-4 underground levels without causing damage to the existing structure? Or are they simply gonna tear it down and rebuild the facade brick-by-brick?
  6. If anyone's curious as to why the ETS had to dig under Notre-Dame rather than go ahead with its planned skywalk, here's why: http://coolopolis.blogspot.ca/2012/08/montreal-no-no-gets-built-dreaded.html I think I remember the ETS dean complaining about how they should have moved to Laval instead of downtown, because of this story.
  7. Someone should stop by their actual sales office higher up on de la montagne. I walked by Wednesday and there was a ton of action there. I think they're building a full demo unit (or two).
  8. That's Westmount Square on the left and the new MUHC on the right. The second crane from the left is new (the first being 1250 Greene) It's either the Redfern or the new arena... or something else? May go check it out tomorrow, apologies for the low zoom.
  9. I can only hope they had in mind to do something (similar) right across the street...
  10. At this point I believe it's still in the realm of speculation. Nothing official. But I must say I've been looking at the first floor layout and there seems to be too many concrete divisions to efficiently host a large surface retailer. Who knows!
  11. A new Burrito restaurant is opening up in front of the seville! In between the church and the anime place. Let's hope for more commercial development!
  12. Second crane is up. I call it Stubby McStubbs.
  13. Isn't 90% of anything over 15 floors west of Crescent an USSR-style eyesore? I thought it blended right in with the rest, 1976-style!
  14. Honestly I have been using this entrance twice a day for years and I can't really tell the difference. Not much of an upgrade. Plus I've been seeing cockroaches daily now
  15. Lots of action on site today, despite being a holiday.
  16. A second crane is going up, this one's yellow and already at half-height of the first one. Closer to Beaver-Hall / Viger intersection.
  17. Mind-blowing. I can see my balcony on four of these...
  18. http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2012/08/21/des-trottoirs-de-granit-seront-bientot-installes
  19. Now that I think about it, we do get very strong winds on the Plaza Ville-Marie (whatever it's called)
  20. Here's what the south side looked like just last December http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1253McGillCollege.jog.jpg Why did that side look so different? I would have thought being on Cathcart shielded it from strong winds / rains.
  21. Domino's Pizza is gone! There's a notice from the city in the window.
  22. Crap. As much as I look forward to more people living in the area, this project will be my personal hell for the next couple of years... You see, my office is located in the "TD Assurances" building (BTW they moved out a while ago, they just paid for sign privileges for a long time) Not sure I should mention the floor, but I'm sitting by the wall to the run-down building/facade, which doubles as a very noisy pigeon sanctuary in the summer. Considering how much I hear the birds, and with the Saint-M and Tour Viger construction sites already loud enough as it is, I'll probably have to pull out the earplugs for this one PS there were a bunch of Nettoyage Apres Sinistre vans in front of Domino's Pizza today. Related?
  23. Are YOU being serious? I am speaking from experience, but take a look at those links. (quick google search: from serious to sorta-hilarious) http://www2.canada.com/montrealgazette/columnists/story.html?id=681f1cba-0c8a-47e1-9986-4ea7b0e41c35 http://www.globalmontreal.com/cops+refused+help+assault+victim+says/4103287/story.html http://montreal.ctvnews.ca/two-men-suffer-knife-wounds-in-downtown-knife-attack-1.764081 http://www.openfile.ca/montreal/suggested/dangerous-mcdonald%E2%80%99s-corner-mackay-and-ste-catherine http://thelinknewspaper.ca/article/900/ http://www.rave.ca/en/community_thread/38334/page1/ This happened to me last year, when twelve of these kids jumped us at around 10PM on a hot Friday night. I basically couldn't do a thing because they were all underaged and I didn't feel like going to jail. I was lucky and got out with a bruised ego and lots of spit to my face. Since then we usually come back home via Sherbrooke or Maisonneuve. Don't get me wrong, I know it's not Montreal's biggest problem at the moment. It's a problem nonetheless and the worst thing to do about it is to turn a blind eye. There is a street gang problem at that intersection, plain and simple.
