Too bad the Hotel de la Montagne blocks any possible expansion of Ogilvy's itself... though at Barney's in NY, they have a passage through another building on the block that connects its two buildings...

 

On another note relating to Ogilvy's.... nice to see Quebec business EXPANDING a venerable brand. Though, I am cautious about the success of suburban expansion; Quebec City is smart, but Laval and Brossard? Maybe diluting the brand in the Montreal area too much... and from what I read, the first new location will be located next to a Wal-Mart.

 

Don't forget, Ogilvy's tried this long ago and failed at Fairview when it first opened as a very upscale mall. I think expansion should be to major cities - Ottawa, Toronto and perhaps Halifax. I think the current location serves the Montreal region as a destination. Should be kept that way.

There are one million consummers on the South Shore and many of them are upper middle class with money. It's a great market.

L'Hôtel de la Montagne est affreux, mais lorsqu'un nouvel immeuble lui sera adossé, au moins il masquera le mur aveugle. Mais il faudrait que cet immeuble se rende jusqu'à DeMaisonneuve pour avoir un impact maximum.

Excellente nouvelle...et en plus, ils vont rajouter 3 étages au projet. J'ai bien hâte de voir le nouveau rendu (effectivement yara, j'ai vérifié sur un dictionnaire en ligne, et le mot "rendu" est accepté comme terme. Voici la définition: Qualité expressive d'une représentation artistique.)

I hadn't heard that they were planning on opening in Laval. Is this really the case? I know they've been talking about openning at Quartier Dix30, but are they really considering Laval? Ogilvy's at Dix30 will be a sure success. No doubt about it! I'm at Dix30 almost every week-end (shopping, restaurants, 5 à 7, SupperClubs etc.etc.etc.) and the amount of money going back and forth in that Lifestyle centre is mond boggling!

 

I agree with you in that they should open stores in Q.C. and Toronto. If they are successful, they you can open more stores in Ottawa , Vancouver and other Canadian cities!

Even if next to a walmart, it wont feels so, here's rendering of phase 3 at Quartier Dix30 where Ogilvy will be located

 

Also, just by statistics, there is more than enough disposable income in the immediate area to sustain such a store

Barney's selection way better than Ogilvy's thats for sure. Ogilvy's selection of clothes is just awful. Ogilvy's needs to update who they carry. In my honest opinion Holts has a better selection.

 

So I wish Bombardier the best with the Ogilvy's brand.

Petit aparté sur le mot "rendu". Il m'intriguait aussi depuis que je l'ai d'abord lu sur le forum.

 

Mais il semble tout à fait correct et précis :

 

1- Petit Robert : "Réalisation graphique d'un projet d'architecture, de décoration ou de publicité. Un rendu d'architecture."

 

2. Petit Larousse : "Dessin poussé, mise au net d'un projet d'architecture ou de décoration."

 

Cet usage du mot rendu reflète tout simplement l'évolution d'un usage plus ancien attesté dès le 18e siècle. Le dictionnaire Littré, qui fait référence pour le français du 19e siècle, dit déjà : " Un beau rendu. La précision du rendu des objets, dans la photographie."

 

Il ne s'agit donc absolument pas d'une mauvaise traduction de "rendering". C'est en fait ce dernier mot qui est dérivé du français, et non l'inverse. Il n'y a donc pas de quoi vomir !

Il y a un gros article dans La Presse de ce samedi sur le projet!

Malheureusement je ne le vois pas encore en ligne, alors je résume:

 

- On parle d'un immeuble "d'une vingtaine d'étages" au début de l'article

- Ce sera une vocation résidentielle (avec encore une petite possibilité d'hôtel), avec commerces aux deux ou trois étages inférieurs

- On va moderniser les 4ième et 5ième étage du magasin Ogilvy

- Un type de la FTQ parle de "22 ou 23 étages"

- le zonage du terrain sera respecté: 60 mètres, question de partir le projet vite

- La pelle doit être dans le trou (citation directe, image symbolique...) au printemps 2011, livraison printemps 2013. Un commerce majeur est intéressé et plusieurs discussions en cours.

There is no question that with Ogilvy's at one end and Holt's at the other, de la Montagne is positioned to be a high-end, premier shopping stretch. Any new development on the street, including the parking lot next to the Loews Hotel Vogue, is going to be a HOT commodity for retailers - here's hoping we get some luxury brands' interest.
