  1. Its not just the plaza, the tower makes the site too claustrophobic and cramped looking, like everything got shoved together. I like my towers to stand by themselves, not shoved on to a tiny corner of an arena next to a railroad overpass.
  2. I pray this doesn't get built and that the land remains Centennial Plaza...there is no reason to ruin a great little square that the Canadiens spent time and money turning into a place where their history can be publically displayed and fans and tourists can stand next to statues of legends like Morenz, Richard, Beliveau and Lafleur. There is TONS of land downtown that is just ugly parking lots, pick any one of those...
  3. How many floors is the Phase 2 section going to be? I don't think it should go higher than 10 to keep the proportions of the entire building from looking to overwhelming or 'stubby'. It looks great so far but it would have been amazing if this thing had been able to crack 40 floors.
  4. The brick is beautiful, quality materials go a long way in a project...I still wish this had been just one floor taller though, to make it stand out a little.
  5. Its nice the city has taken an interest in social housing, too bad they decided to place it next to one of the primary gateways to downtown.
  6. I have a feeling these towers are going to age very badly, they almost verge on 'commie block' designs. Its especially sad when you look at some of the designs first proposed.
  7. Another day, another stubby ~20 floor "tower" on land that should be used for 40+...
  8. WOW...seriously it looks fantastic! And done so quickly, I think some sort of speed record was set for the recladding. For those who say the Hall building should be next, I think it should be left as is and just given a good wash. The big white box is iconic and is a good (vs bad GM building) example of 60s architecture.
  9. The transformation is amazing, this really brings the whole area together. The company should win an award for giving such an ugly building a new life.
  10. Well in any case it shows what the street profile will look like, even if its missing 3 floors.
  11. So is the building topped out or is there going to be another floor? I think the site deserves a bit better than this.
  12. I noticed that they fixed the roof last week, so now it doesn't have the giant graffiti tag on it.
  13. What happened to the Ogilvy's that was supposed to be built? I don't see anything in these renders that looks like it would support it moving in even at a later date...This looks to be a far weaker phase design wise as well, very cheap looking.
  14. If the planetarium is moving next year to Olympic Park wouldn't it make sense to demolish the building an incorporate the site into these plans?
  15. If the planetarium is moving next year to Olympic Park wouldn't it make sense to demolish the building an incorporate the site into these plans?
  16. This project must be bigger than 3-4 floors to warrant the large crane and heavy-duty foundation work. They mention five floors on their website but the picture only has four...
  17. I took a liitle lunch hour walk down St. Ctherines and did as fast a sweep of all the sites there were to see, I know most of these projects have their own thread but I thought it'd be fun to throw a couple in to appreciate the overall scale of the development. Defying the wrecking ball- A stay of execution? A new landmark?
  18. This is a La Presse article from May 1998 regarding the Expos building an office complex to support their stadium construction project. The two towers next to Windsor station represents the two 50 floor towers that was part of the Canadiens original building plans, as mentioned in the second part of the article.
  19. I can hardly wait until they start pouring the concrete, its going to be so fun to watch this building rise. And can somebody please clarify for me, are they going to demolish the Zestos building?
  20. What were the original heights for the towers when the project was first proposed?
  21. Would it not make more sense to build a new convention center in a location that offers greater room for expansion and less traffic congestion? Why not build it near the technoparc along the bonaventure with a hotel tower as part of the plan. Trying to stuff a massive complex in the middle of downtown/old montreal is very awkward and limiting in terms of design. It might be expensive in the short term but I think the benefits for the future are much higher.
  22. So widen it like Gilbert said to encompase the Zesto's site and increase the height to something like 40 floors and it balances out...
  23. I really hope they don't use the yellow brick that is shown in the concept picture for the actual construction, its ugly!
