i think the real question is, why is anyone on earth still using active x in 2009..

is this pos hosted on a windows 98 server .. or what the fuck?!..

ALOT of activeX are still used in the buisness world.

As for the website itself, it runs fine on Chrome, except that part where you need to be a paying member to use that database. It's not a biggie really.

It is their fault! Accessibility of their services is the government's responsibility. That's why we pay taxes!

EDIT: I own a Mac because most of my university department's computers are Macs and thus it makes things easier for me right now. I know IE is free but it only exists for ONE operative system: Windows. Imagine if this website worked only on Macs. It would not be illegal for them to do it, as it is not an essential service, but that doesn't make it right.

I think it's more important to service the needs of 96% than the needs of 4%, if given the choice. I have an 8086 lying around. I can't run any modern OS on it. Am i to complain as well?

No disrespect Newbie, but you sound like a typical Apple-worshiping fanboy ;)

I'd also like to point out that nearly all PCs i've used at Concordia are not Macs, and i'm in a design program too. The idea that universities and/or anybody in the arts must use a Mac because it's better... is simply disillusioned elitist-wannabe Mac propaganda.

Nevertheless, support for Macs should be made available.

EDIT : as you can tell, i don't much like Apple and their products. For the last 15 years i've had to put up with Mac-fanboys that act like elitist snobs just because they have a Mac and think that somehow that makes them better. It's a damn computer, nothing more.

No disrespect Cataclaw, but you were the one who made a subjective comment about Apple ;)

Didn't mean to sound like a fanboy. I wouldn't use Apple if it weren't for my department. Having the same software as them makes everything much easier for me at the moment. I had a Windows laptop and it got stolen, then I bought a Mac only for this reason. Mac OS is O.K. just as is Windows. Unfortunately there is no OS I really like (I'm not very familiar with the open source ones though). I would have a Windows laptop too if I had enough money to own two computers.

Regardless of the fact that about 89% of people use Windows (according to w3schools), my point remains valid. You can achieve any ActiveX functionality using JavaScript and server-side code, and that way cover 99% of the users. I still don't see why I am wrong. Why should they use deprecated tools (Microsoft deprecated ActiveX) in order to screw up 10% of the users just because 10 is a small number?

Actually, that particular software could be rewritten in Java and it would have more OS-interoperability... javascript and server side scripts wouldn't be enough imo.

My take on this is that the government has a huge database with this particular software and porting it to another application/platform which would be more compatible would cost too much money for the quantity of people who would want to use it in OSX/*nix.

Oh, hey, i agree with you there. There's no reason to needlessly prevent Mac users from accessing the site.

Support ought to be extended to as many computers/platforms are realistically possible.

That would kind of make sense I guess :(

pas sur chrome linux .. :(

Apple isn't just a computer, it is also a religious sect... :D
