I don't know what is so exciting about trams...They are a relic of a bygone era--- steel wheels , clackity clang with rails in the roads and wires in the air space above. They served their purpose back in the 1st half of the 20th century now let's look ahead to more modern means of transport... Bergeron is like all of the other sheep...baa baa!! Frankly $10 billion would be better spent on expanding the Metro and getting infrastructure back into shape..bury the wires that still make our streets look so shabby. No Bergeron wants to add more wires...

Can you imagine what rails would do to our already screwed up streets and the traffic jams (Park Avenue) holy cow!!!

 

Wake up smell the coffee; come up with real solutions in today's world; don't fantasize and romanticize technology which is passe

and will cause more headaches than solve problems!! the shame of politicians that have run out of ideas!!!

 

Too bad Drapeau did not have any sons or grandsons that followed in his foot steps...bloody shame!!

$/km de métro : 140M avec un cout d'entretient annuel que je ne connais pas mais qui est certainement supérieur à 2M

Effectivement avec cet argent ($10 milliards) nous pouvons doubler la taille du réseau.

 

I would rather see the Metro double in size which could include the east end, the west end up to Sources and expand in Laval and the South Shore. The Metro is not affected by the weather. Add comfortable air conditioned buses on the surface and Voila! You wind up with a 1st class public transport that can get you around the island in comfort and speed!! Imagine a Metro station at PET now that would be phenomenal. We just saved $1 billion dollars on that ever imaginary rail link to downtown!!!

 

Put the tram on the new Champlain bridge... now that becomes useful...no need for bus lanes.. 2 tram lines in the middle of the new bridge..that would be fantastic with a terminal in downtown and another terminal on the south shore

Drapeau had it right, rip out the damn tramway!

 

What is worse perhaps is we have too many politicians with 'vision'. They all have their friggin vision. We have bridges falling down, tunnels and such closed in Montreal from the risk of collapse, potholes that break your car, etc etc and we want to spend 10 billion plus on a tramway that serves no real purpose. Le groupe de travail sur le financement du tramway à Montréal est créé.

 

Le groupe de travail pour le financement du tramway à Montréal a été mis sur pied, a annoncé la Ville de Montréal dans un communiqué, mardi soir. Annoncé en mai dernier lors du Forum stratégique sur les transports organisé par la Chambre de commerce du Montréal Métropolitain, le groupe de travail sera présidé par le chef de la direction de la Chambre de commerce du Montréal métropolitain, M. Michel Leblanc.

 

« Le tramway représente […] un véritable levier de développement économique et urbain, mais dans le contexte actuel des finances publiques, la Ville ne peut assumer seule la réalisation de ce projet. La mise sur pied de ce groupe de travail permettra d'analyser les différents scénarios possibles en termes de financement », a déclaré le maire Gérald Tremblay dans le communiqué.Le chef de Projet Montréal Richard Bergeron est heureux de cette annonce, mais déplore que le maire n'indique pas, dans son communiqué, la date à laquelle ce groupe de travail devra remettre son rapport. «Nous espérons sincèrement qu'il ne s'agit pas de pelletage par en avant pour retarder encore une fois un projet qui semble de plus en plus nécessaire au développement de notre ville», a indiqué M. Bergeron dans un communiqué diffusé mardi soir. Il a aussi ajouté qu'il «serait très heureux de participer aux travaux de ce groupe de travail. »

 

En entrevue avec Métro en mai dernier, M. Bergeron avait analysé les coûts de construction d'un tramway à 1,5 G$. Il avait affirmé qu’il serait possible de construire en quatre ans les 37,5 km de tramway. «Depuis une vingtaine d’année, une centaine de villes ont choisi de se tourner vers le tramway, a-t-il affirmé. Montréal est très en retard. Ailleurs dans le monde, on n’invente pas des études et on ne se demande pas si c’est faisable, on prend une décision et on passe à l’action. Gérald Tremblay doit prendre une décision et vite», avait-il déclaré en mai.

Le groupe de travail sur le financement du tramway sera formé de neuf autres membres.

Bonne nouvelle! Un groupe de travail!

 

C'est une bonne idée de réfléchir à des sources de revenus... mais quand même, je ne peux m'empêcher de me poser la question... Quand le mandat de ce groupe tirera à sa fin... je me demande bien ce qu'ils vont nous sortir d'autre.
