  3. true but the prediction is there will be less cars on the road and those on the road will be transporting people (like a UBER) so less car ownership, less need for parking, less need to provide for for public transit and less need for taxis. Ok this won't likely happen in the next 20 years but it's probably heading that way if total self driving cars are successful. Btw. Does anyone know if Montreal has already started making long term plans for this type of technology? Any testing to be done in out region?
  4. Here's hoping self driving cars will in the future eliminate the need for all these endless parking space.... It's ridiculous how much time cars spend sitting idle taking up space that could be used for something else.
  5. It looks so easy.. if only. Honestly if we are going to spend money on the future this is where some of it should go. I've been wanting this link all my life. Driving is stressful enough in this city, seriously reducing traffic congestion on the 40 and 15 (the two roads I use everyday) would be a Godsend.
  6. Just a side note, I was told by an Edmonton resident that they had a downtown building height limit because of the nearby downtown airport.. the landing path to the runway was over downtown. That airport was later closed and the need for the height limit disappeared. Montreal's height limit is dubious in my opinion. Is it more about seeing the mountain from downtown or the unobstructed view for the wealthy residents from the mountain? I've never bought the "viewing the mountain" argument. Hardly anyone goes downtown to to view the mountain. People can see it from 3 other sides if they really want to see it. There's a great view from the Olympic Stadium tower and in my opinion the view looking south of St Joseph's oratory is beautiful. Furthermore there's no need to stop economic development just so people on the south shore can see it.. If it's about livability in the core then I don't see how for instance two 30 story buildings is any better than one 60 story one.. it's twice the amount of obstruction, more densification and creates less sunlight.. so in my view, free the city to grow as it should and make it stand out among all the others if contractors want to build higher.
  7. What a fantastic photo! Bien fait!
  8. True but no matter what our parking issues aren't anywhere as much a problem as they are in Europe.

  10. I only know of parking in the front which is limited. There's a some on the Galeries d'Anjou side but is it enough over all.. plus the access in and out will be into the streets feeding the shopping mall.. that's a mess now with the traffic going there, I can't imagine how it will be when the grocery crowd is thrown into the fray..
  11. That's a strange location. Parking and access might be difficult considering it will be mixing with people going to Les Galeries d'Anjou.. There's currently not really a large amount of space for parking too.. hope they work that out.
  12. Nicely put but I'd have to add that it is necessary for cities to reinvent themselves every decade or so.. to put on a fresh face.. many people around the world only know of Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei because their new skylines shouted out their success to the world. They stand out much like the CN tower makes Toronto stand out. Montreal's skyline changes but unless you are following us it looks pretty much the same as always, just a little more dense than earlier. Our need to protect Mont-Royal's view to me is partly bogus. We don't go downtown to look at the mountain. We can see it from 3 other sides with no problem. It could be a builder will build 2 20 story buildings insead of 1 40 story so the view of the mountain from the city at ground level itslef would be more blocked out than if it were 1 building... plus there is an argument than the whole mountain view argument is really more about wealthy people living on the mountain not wanting their view from the mountain blocked by office towers.. regardless, I'm not a fan of restrictions and limitations. I don't think we'd have many (if any) very tall buildings happening if the height limit were taken off anyway but I'd like to think it could be built if there was a need and it didn't destroy the human factor in the local area. Plus it would help freshen Montreal's image to the world and encourage business to come here if they see it growing and changing. Despite arguments to the contrary, we do compete with out cities for business so it takes whatever we can do to draw people here and maybe this is one litle thing.. we just have to make sure we do it better.
  13. This would be a bright addition to what is the wasteland of Laval...! Fingers crossed it happens
  14. So.. it's a giant bottle opener...? not noteworthy in my opinion.. not the worse I've seen either, but if I get thirsty and actually find a bottle with a cap....
  15. Maybe they should consider linking the blue and green lines together at H-Beaugrand & Anjou to make a loop.
  16. Wow that's a big savings in time! I'm really happy for you.
  17. I don't like it, again we're changing signs/symbols that were meant for other things and done by other generations. We need something new and original done by us not adaptations or changes of things done in the past. Let the past coexist so we can write our own history.
  18. Yeah me too.. what's so horrific about this? I've seen far far far worse...
