Where chefs shop

 

Chefs know how to buy fine food. Here are some of their sources, for their restaurants and for themselves:

 

Saveurs & Gourmandises, bakery and pastry shop, 39 Main St., North Hatley, 819-842-3131. Alain Labrie recommends pizza topped with bocconcini cheese, tomatoes and local bacon, and carrot cake.

 

Marche de la Gare, farmer's market with specialty food stores, 710-720 Minto St., Sherbrooke. Danny St Pierre and Labrie buy cheeses at Fromagerie de la Gare, 819-566-4273. St Pierre likes the sausages and dry-cured meats at William J. Walter, and the gelatos, sorbets and ice cream at Savoroso, 819-346-2206.

 

La Rumeur Affamee, bakery and delicatessen, 15 Rue Principale N., Sutton, 450-538-1888. Christian Beaulieu likes the baguettes and the apple cranberry sourdough bread to serve with his foie gras.

 

Fromagerie des Cantons, 441 Normandie Blvd. N., Farnham, 450-293-2498; Fromagerie La Station, 440 Hatley Rd. (Route 208), Compton, 819-835-5301; L'Abbaye de St. Benoit du Lac, St. Benoit du Lac, 819-843-4080. All the Townships chefs favour cheeses from these regional producers.
