Well i'm assuming they mean floor-to-ceiling height. Since they're talking about living space i'm assuming they're also talking about ceiling heights. Usually when they mean floor-to-floor, they explicitly say it. We can't be certain, it isn't all that clear.

 

Either way, the floors will be pretty high. The first floor is usually higher too, 4-5m+. Also depends on if there is a mezzanine or not.

 

Anyway bottom line, this should be roughly 120m give or take!

J'espère vraiment que ce nouveau building va fitter dans le square... Ce serait une honte qu'il vienne tout bousiller ! Il sera p-e pas aussi haut que nous le souhaitons mais si du moins il parait bien tant mieux !

At 120m, that's shorter than all of its neighbours (excluding phase 1 I think). Even Altoria should be taller than this...

Taj Mahal impact? Oh god. Funny how Alcan was so innovative in its day when it built maison Alcan in 1983, a project blending with its surroundings, integrating old buildings, respecting the scale of the area, it then launched a trend in Montreal. We are now back to ''grandeur'' projects, like in the 60s.. It's the circle of life I guess.

In our conversation this morning my friend also mentioned that the other companies that have everyone speculating are Rogers and Telus Telus is actually contemplating a brand new headquarters, moving out of the former C.I.L. House on Rene Levesque.. Right now just preliminary but things could happen soon enough. Getting back to Rio Tinto, if all sides finally agree the building should start in spring 2012!!

27 étages c'est peu pour influencer le skyline, mais avec une architecture unique et réussie, alors là j'applaudirais de tout mon coeur.

Pour que l'édifice devienne disons...un édifice-phare non seulement de l'architecture de Montréal mais peut-être même de toute une génération d'architectes contemporains, il faudrait un édifice aux lignes audacieuses et il n'est surtout pas souhaitable qu'il s'intègre à son environnement. Tout est "neuf" -en tous les cas "moderne" autour du square. A part les façades du centre de Commerce Mondial, le plus vieil édifice autour du square est la tour de la Bourse -donc on a un éventail d'édifice qui vont du style International au post-moderne.

 

Ce qu'il nous manque c'est un bâtiment audacieux !!! Il lui faut une ou des courbures (on voit pas ça souvent ici !!) : il y a déjà une courbures avec l'édifice de l'OACI. Puisque ce serait dans le même complexe, il faudrait au minimum ce clin d'oeil.

 

En somme, Alcan ne devrait pas à craindre un design controversé : Montréal est mûre pour un édifice remarquable !!

En résumé quatre tours possible dont deux quasi certaines:Rio Tinto et Snc 2.

Rogers et Telus en attente(hors de la meute marriot/séville/altitude/altoria/waldorf/chum/crchum/tour CF etc)

Ca devrait nous faire de bonnes années (2012/2013/2014) ,beaucoup d'action en CV.

I also heard the same thing. I also have from a very good source that a consortium with Guy Laliberte has officially made a deal with Rio Tinto to acquire la Maison Alcan.

They have already presented the plans to the city and someone at the city commented they had never seen such an ugly building!!(not very encouraging)

I guess beauty will be in the eye of the beholder.
