C'est vrai que l'expropriation n'est pas desirable, mais le plan de la Ville etait completement irrealiste et inconstructible. Etant donne que le quotation pour le plan de la Ville etait ~3 G$ de plus, si je possedais un des batiments du a l'expropriation, je ferais un offre a le MTQ que serais tres content de prendre "juste" 1 G$ et fermer ma guele

Je pense qu'il faut quand même comprendre ces gens (they are not idiots). On fait face à un projet qui va détruire leur maison, tandis qu'il aurait été possible des les sauver. Dans le plan de la ville. Mais le gouvernement décide de faire sourde oreille et de les expropriés quand même. Je pense que personne sur ce forum n'aimerait être dans cette situation. @fortier: Si je me rappelle bien, les gens qui habitent cet édifice, on commencer par y habiter de façon illégal, car zoner commercial et non conforme a l'habitation et maintenant ils reçoivent le double de leur loyer et les frais de déménagement en plus de bloquer tous le projet, je trouve que l'on est quand même un peu trop mou, ailleurs ils les auraient sorti de la sans rien et peut être même une amende très salée, pousse mais pas trop quand même. ce sont des résidents illégaux au départ et ils font la pluie et le beau temps, un peu pas mal arrogants a mon avis.

La partie du double de la valeur du building est spéculative, personne ne sait les vrais chiffres (en tout cas pas moi).

 

Ce que les locataires ont reçus comme offre, c'est 3 mois de loyer + frais de déménagement. Ce qui est amplement généreux.

 

À la limite ça se négocie, ils pourraient se têter 12 mois de loyer pour le désagrément, mais non ça reste inacceptable pour eux (c'est que plusieurs m'ont dits).

The Quebec Transport Deptartment is overspending as much as $1 billion for the renovation of the Turcot Interchange, the official opposition at Montreal city hall charged on Monday.

 

But an official for the provincial ministry in charge of the $3-billion overhaul of the crumbling, 46-year-old network of access ramps noted Vision Montreal has always been against the project announced last November by Transport Minister Sam Hamad, and that Mayor Gérald Tremblay, not his opposition, speaks for the city.

 

"We're not surprised by their announcement," said Maxime Sauvageau, a spokesperson for Hamad. "Even before the Turcot project was announced, they were against it."

 

Sauvageau's comments followed a news conference by Vision Montreal leader Louise Harel and Benoît Dorais, mayor of the Sud Ouest borough where the interchange is located, held to complain that taxpayers are footing the bill for unexplained construction work, the most notable being the rebuilding of the Ville Marie Expressway west of Atwater Ave.

 

"It's a question of logic," Harel told reporters. "The Ville Marie was built as a single structure. How is it that west of Atwater it has to come down, yet it's in good shape to the east of Atwater?"

 

However Mario St. Pierre, a spokesperson for Transport Quebec, said the eastern stretch of the Ville Marie had already been subject to renovations, while it seemed more efficient to include the western section as part of the Turcot overhaul.

 

Vision Montreal also expressed concerns over a plan by Transport Quebec to move rail lines located in the Turcot yards north toward the Falaise St. Jacques, contending the land is too marshy to safely support train traffic. St. Pierre said the ministry is satisfied.

 

Dorais said that given the precarious state of Quebec's finances, the money earmarked for the Ville Marie reconstruction would be better spent on measures to alleviate the traffic jams that will be created by the Turcot project, which is scheduled to start next year and be completed by 2018.

 

The opposition party would like to see the establishment of a light rail service across the Victoria Bridge as well as a tramway line in Lachine as a means to ease the traffic flow during construction.

 

The Turcot project, which has seen its price tag nearly double over the past two years, has been a source of friction at city hall. Projet Montréal leader Richard Bergeron resigned from the city's executive committee over the Tremblay administration's lack of opposition to the version of the project unveiled by Hamad, while Vision Montreal councillors in the Sud Ouest borough say they and the local population have yet to be informed of the details of the renovation.

Not really... the Turcot project seems exorbitantly expensive, and literally double what was planned only a few years ago. I mean the "High Five" in Texas only cost $261 million, and it is a larger, higher-capacity interchange with a whole extra level of interchange! Granted the Turcot also plans some extra road and a few small interchanges on the south and west ends but it is still, more than 10 times that cost for what seems less

A coalition of residents, politicians and environmental groups is pushing the Quebec government to change its plans on how to rebuild the Turcot interchange.

 

The groups are promising to lobby the national assembly, educate the public and hold demonstrations in order to get the attention of the Charest government and force a change in the current plans.

 

Coalition members said Tuesday the plan for the Turcot is similar to what would have been proposed in the 1950s, while Montreal is in desperate need for a project for the 21st century.

 

"The Liberal government seems to think it can impose its vision, despite the massive opposition from environmentalists," Shannon Franssen, the spokesperson for citizen's group Mobilisation Turcot, wrote in a release.

 

The city of Montreal proposed its alternate plan to rebuild a smaller Turcot interchange on April 20.

 

Montreal mayor Gérald Tremblay's plan focuses on reducing the number of cars, improving public transit and scrapping the residential expropriations currently included in the project drafted by Quebec's Transport Ministry.

 

The ministry has not yet responded to the city's proposal.

 

Environmental groups have severely criticized the province's plans to replace the 40-year-old Turcot structure, saying it would increase car traffic.

 

The province's proposal to rebuild the interchange is expected to cost $1.5 billion and be completed in 2017.
