omg so sad

MONTREAL — A 32-year-old man was declared dead in hospital after he was struck on the head by a large metal plate at a construction site near the Bell Centre Monday morning.

He was a pedestrian, police said.

Police said that a chain holding the plate — which was being manoeuvred by a large piece of heavy equipment — apparently broke.

The accident took place about 8:40 a.m., at Mountain St., corner René Lévesque Blvd.

The man was initially considered in critical condition.

Police said shortly before 10 a.m. that he had died.

The plate measures 12 by eight feet, is three-quarters of an inch thick and weights about a ton. It is of the type used to cover a hole so that trucks can drive over.

I wonder what role being back from vacation has to do with this? Was the equipement checked before use? Was the worker tired?

Regardless, poor poor guy. I hope he didn't suffer. And poor worker that has to deal with this on his conscience forever.

BTW, That could be any one of us! BE CAREFUL OUT THERE TAKING PICS ! ! !
