I've even heard RL being compared to Park Avenue in NYC... or the "5th Avenue of Montreal"...🤣

Let's be honest, René Levesque as it currently stands can't even compare to University Avenue in Toronto, which is a pretty low standard for urban boulevards (which also happens to feature a 6-8 lane urban highway right in the middle of downtown Toronto):

Exactly . People should pump the brakes and breath.

With the above Rem on René Levesquez we dont know maybe they will take off at least 1 lane on both side and a wide green zone underneath

Qu'ils en profitent donc pour reconfigurer complètement R-L et Notre-Dame. Que ce ne soit pas juste "domper une structure sur l'existant", mais requalifier toute l'emprise des deux boulevards. C'est le moment.

That’s the “extra BILLION” that the City has to fork out. The Caisse’s $10 Billion estimate doesn’t include any of the “finishing” or “upgrading.”

The actual SRB on Pie-IX is probably worth less than $100 million; it’s the rebuilding of the entire right of way from the bedrock up that’s costing another half-bill.

The only drawing by Caisse-Infra for REM Est and their "consultations" is a look at REM Est  on R-L in front of the Chinatown gates.    Without doubt this is proof that la   Caisse Infra is mocking the intelligence of Montrealers with its omission of the view from  Robert-Bourassa  aong  R-L to the Chinatown gates. They act like  confidence tricksters but  to all  objective observers, their  omissions are a declaration  of their  defeat and reckless incompetence. Who will be the first  fall guy to be ordered to  fall on his sword? Poor scapegoat. The CEO of both the   Caisse and las Caisse-Infra should be  ones to resign,  in disgrace and without further delays. They  both   must resign now or have an investigation order it before the election.

In their first presentation, CDPQ said that since the architectural firm had just begun their work, they didn't have a drawing available at this time. They said that they wanted to make sure that when they present the drawing to us, they are of the highest quality possible. In other words, we won't have a drawing for a long while. Calling for resignations and investigations at this stage is inappropriate and might actually be against forum rules.

Whatever.  The final decision to proceed (or not) will be taken by the government (to be) elected on October 3, 2022.  Aesthetics will be a factor, and so will be, more broadly speaking, "social acceptability", but other important considerations might come into play.  Between now and September 2022, several things may happen  -- changes in the economic context, modified patterns of transportation in the post-covid world, and perhaps even more importantly,  the emergence of credible calling into question of this project.  Until now, criticisms were focussed on its deficient aesthetics, notably for the downtown section.  But other issues will come to the fore.  One pertains to costs -- not merely the capital costs, but also the operating costs.  For the REM (A) currently in construction but about to begin operations starting in early 2022 (initially for the Brossard to downtown section), Montrealers may have had the feeling that this was a God-given project, with all the funding coming from the CDPQ-i and the governments, but they have yet to (fully) realize that operating costs will require on-going public subsidization  -- with in all likeliness an impact on tariffs overall.  They will get a foretaste beginning in 2022.  Presumably, a similar arrangement would apply to the REM (B) (aka REM de l'Est).  The STM will be affected, perhaps in too many ways to describe it properly at the moment.

I also have another concern: as everybody must be aware, the Blue Line metro extension project is currently being "revised" with a view to contain/reduce its expected cost. That's fair.  My fear is that some decisions regarding the said extension would have to wait for a decision in regards of the REM de l'Est -- which is not to say that I believe that the Blue Line extension is compromised, but that it could be delayed.  This is not mere speculation:  It is a fact that the REM de l'Est as currently envisaged, 1) entails a correspondance station with the Blue Line extension; and 2) alters the overall pattern of transportation in Eastern Montreal.  In other words, the REM, a yet-to-be-approved project, could affect another (the Blue Line) which is supposedly approved.

So...even the most beautiful drawing of the downtown REM line will not in itself mean the end of the debate.  Stay tuned until some time in 2023.
