As for raising kids... people were raising kids before suburbs existed.

Actually, having a city population with kids call for more public infrastructures such as parks, arenas, walkable areas, etc...

Laval attire une autre société montréalaise

 

Clarins transférera son siège social canadien et une centaine d’employés dans l’ouest de l’île

 

Entreprise implantée à Montréal depuis 40 ans, Clarins Canada quittera au printemps ses installations de l’arrondissement Saint-Laurent à la faveur d’une place d’affaires et d’un nouvel entrepôt en bordure de l’autoroute 13, près de Notre-Dame.

 

Il s’agit d’un investissement évalué à quelque 10 M$ du Groupe Montoni, propriétaire du terrain et des immeubles que sa division construction est actuellement à ériger. Selon ce que le Courrier Laval a appris, ce coup de filet est l'aboutissement d'un démarchage de cinq longues années mené auprès des dirigeants de cette société.

 

Expansion

 

Les projets d'expansion de Clarins Canada, troisième distributeur de l'industrie des cosmétiques et des parfums en importance au pays, nécessitaient un déménagement.

 

Non seulement le groupe augmentera-t-il la superficie de son entrepôt et de son siège social canadien de 35 %, mais Clarins pourra toujours, au besoin, ajouter à sa capacité d'entreposage par la possibilité d'un agrandissement qu'offre le terrain adjacent.

 

Une option non négligeable pour cette entreprise qui «fait de plus en plus d'acquisitions de marques», explique la vice-présidente des finances et des opérations, Louise Villaggi.

 

Outre la gamme originale de produits de soins et de maquillage connue sous la bannière de la multinationale française fondée en 1954, Clarins Canada possède une seconde division abritant les marques Thierry Mugler et Azzaro de même que toutes les marques dont elle assure la distribution.

 

Fait intéressant à noter, les nouveaux quartiers généraux de Clarins avoisineront ceux de Andlauer Transport et Services (ATS), l'entreprise qui assure le service de livraison à travers tout le pays.

 

Personnel

 

À compter du 1er avril 2008, Laval gagnera un nouveau siège social et la centaine d'emplois s'y rattachant.

 

«L'annonce du déménagement a été bien accueillie par notre personnel», fait savoir Mme Villaggi. Incidemment, la majorité de ces employés qui convergent tous les matins de la semaine vers les installations actuelles de l'arrondissement Saint-Laurent résident à Laval.

 

Par ailleurs, la vice-présidente des finances et des opérations signale que l'avènement du métro à Laval a pesé dans la balance quand est venu le temps de choisir le site. «Nos employés qui habitent sur l'île de Montréal et sur la rive-sud et qui utilisent les transports en commun seront tout aussi bien servis», assure-t-elle, précisant qu'un circuit d'autobus relie la station Montmorency à ses futurs bureaux et que la distance à parcourir est sensiblement la même qui sépare les locaux actuels à la station Côte-Vertu.

Can't walk in Ottawa, car city (although in numbers, Ottawa is the city where the most people walk to work...)

 

Everytime we go to Montreal, we walk and use the subway. Most of the very best restaurants in Montreal are within walking distance of a Metro station.

 

That's about once a month for us. When we'll move to Montreal, it will be way more often...

Look yesterday I left my place in Laval to a place close to the village for under 15 minutes.

Do we have to agree? What I don't get is not that your car is convenient or not, but rather if your life is downtown anyway, besides for cost, is there any other reason not to live there?

So, it is a cost issue then; for the same size condo downtown, you personally would have chosen downtown, right?

 

The wife thing is something else... "ce que femme veux, dieu le veux!". I would obviously not suggest going against the will of the boss!

Actually I got the same exact condo for half the price in laval, its exactly the same layout and size and all... Her job is next to our actual condo, so if we had bought downtown, she would have trekked to Laval until she finds a new job. I prefer to do the driving

In the past five years, there has been a huge surge in immigration from mainland China, North Africa, France and Romania. The number of mainland Chinese immigrants actually doubled between 2001 and 2006.

 

I'm not sure what's driving the growth in Romanian immigration but Toronto has seen a similar influx. There has also been a surprisingly large number of immigrants from the USA and UK.

Alot of people in Romania speak French, plus they're highly educated, perfect combo.
