A shiny new food hall is on the cusp of opening in the Quartier des Spectacles — with over 20 restaurants inside Le Central will throw open its doors any day now.

Most vendors in the 22,000 square foot space have finished their build-outs, with insiders noting that permits are in place, and that the hall is effectively ready for business imminently, possibly one day this week. It’s one of three food halls planning to open this fall in the city — the other two, Time Out Market and Le Cathcart, are planning to open later in the fall.

Le Central takes up residence in the base of the Carré St-Laurent development, and fronts onto Clark, St-Catherine, and St-Laurent, on the south side of Ste-Catherine. It will have seating for about 700 people, not counting a private event space — most of that will be communal, although a few restaurants have bar-style setting at their own stands.

The restaurant line-up has been announced progressively over the last few weeks: Read about the first batch of restaurants here, which included a mix of existing businesses (such as doughnut shop Trou de Beigne and Hawaiian spot Kamehameha), and new concepts like Laotian restaurant Thip Thip, fried chicken counter Ho Lee Chix, and Roman-style pizzeria Morso.

There’s also several new restaurants to note:

Yannick Fromagerie, which started in St-Jérôme, will offer cheese and charcuterie boards, as well as other bites centred around fine cheeses.

Bishop Street ramen purveyor Misoya will be in the market.

Former Plateau restaurant Pintxo will bring tapas, Spanish wines, and more.

Bagado, a new concept, will serve ice cream and chocolate creations.

The meat-lovers from former Villeray restaurant Le Gras Dur and its burger and bacon trucks will do hearty hamburgers and poutines.

Hochelaga pizzeria Heirloom will serve Neapolitan-style pies.

New taqueria Bonita’s will serve up tacos.

Reputed Petite-Patrie south Indian snack bar Le Super Qualité will dish up thali and more.

Brewery West Shefford will pour craft beers from a bar-like set up.

A tartare bar named Mignonette will focus on a range of raw meats.

That tartare bar isn’t to be confused with another stand, Mignon, focusing on sweets, and in particular, churros.

Lastly, a new restaurant named Ragu will be in Le Central — no details on it are available, but it appears that it’ll be serving pasta.

Many of the restaurant will also serve their own beer, wine, and cocktails.

Le Central is comfortably the biggest of the three food halls in the works for the city right now. Both Time Out and Le Cathcart are taking up large spaces within existing mall complexes; the Eaton Centre for Time Out and Place Ville-Marie for Le Cathcart.

Time Out is mostly offering new locations for existing Montreal restaurants, and has nabbed favourites like Romados and Olive & Gourmando — it will have 16 restaurants, almost all of which have been announced. Meanwhile, Le Cathcart’s offerings remain a mystery, although it will offer a mix of grab-and-go type options, more formal sit-down restaurants, and a sizable bar.
