Also, about saying that this tower would be directly surrounded by 7 storey buildings... so what?

 

Isn't there a 0 storey vacant lot/parking lot just across from the 1000 de la Gauchetière? The 1250 R-L too!

 

Plus, there are 40-storey+ buildings not too far from the proposed site.

 

Since when did homogeneous uniformity become the desired norm for city-building?

The question is: is there any justification for a this being built right now? Are there any companies actively looking for that kind of office space, that couldn't be found be leasing office space in an existing building? Did the architects draw this for anyone in particular, or did they just have a lot of spare time on their hands?

 

Also, perhaps it would be easier for the city to approve a zoning change for an office tower, rather than a residential tower. It seems somehow more functional, perhaps.

I don't think this was ever supposed to be an office tower. More like a residential/Hotel tower...a mixed use project.

 

With 58 floors and 217 meters, that would give an average height per floor of 3.74 meters, which is clearly much lower than your average office tower(about 4.5 meters per floor).

 

A residential/ Mixed use project usually has 3.5 to 3.75 meters per floor...which this tower would have!

Also, in this rendering we can see that the lower part of the tower doesn't have any balconies...so i would assume that this would be the Hotel portion of a mixed use project, whereas the higher floors would be the condos(with Balconies)

True... 58 residential/hotel floors is shorter than a 58 floor office building.

 

BUT... NIMBY's see only 58 and get all freaked out!

 

No kidding! they freak out for 20 floors, can you imagine the kind of opposition this project will face if the promotor ever tries to get this project going?!?!

Isn't this just two blocks from where Kevric is also proposing a mixed use?

 

I don't know if it,s two blocks or not, but it ain't very far from there!

 

A tower that size in that area would sure change the skyline!(for the better!)

Yeah, no way this thing goes up at that site with the kind of opposition we saw for the 34 floor Mackay tower. If this project is at all serious, the 1300 R.-L. site would suit it well. It's even zoned for maximum height, so theoretically there should be no problem whatsoever building it there.
