No, that's even worse. That is literally erasing the historical names of the area. Something new is fine, but we should keep existing names as they are.

Is that so? Places routinely change name officially and unofficially to be more of significance to the people that occupy those spaces. It’s not a sacrilegious act to change the name of things. However, toponomy and geography matters when naming transit stations. Being coherent matters when developing a city. If naming the station Bernard Landry is particularly important, than we should co-brand la cite du multimedia as something like “District Landry”, “Bourg-Landry”, or rename a street or other landmark around the station. Some names were chosen because as a young nation we were eager to give some individuality to our spaces, but ultimately those names shouldn’t matter for the sole reason of being historic. I don’t mind keeping those names, but no, changing them is not a bad thing at all.

My political choices are motivated by logic, morals and values. If Mayor Plante wants to name a station in Griffintown after a hardcore advocate of Quebec sovereignty, then I don't believe she shares those same values. Bernard Landry was very outspoken about his disdain for the English-speaking minority in Quebec, and he blamed the "ethnic" vote for the "Non" majority in the referendum. He is a fading symbol of divisiveness in Quebec, and the mayor has chosen to honor that. I could care less if the park on Robert-Bourassa was named after him but the fact that the GRIFFINTOWN station has to share its name with this man was a calculated move (and it would be extremely naive to think otherwise).

Wasn't that Parizeau?

Landry also made some harsh remarks on the night of the referendum. He apologized, but he was minister of Affaires internationales, Immigration & Communautés culturelles at that time!

"Although most of the focus that famous night in 1995 was on leader Jacques Parizeau’s “money and ethnic votes” statement, Landry had his own minority moment when he walked into Montreal’s Intercontinental Hotel on the same evening and berated an immigrant hotel clerk. In an emotional outburst, Landry ranted about immigrants who had deprived the Yes forces of a victory. Landry later would apologize to the clerk, Anita Martinez, and stepped aside as the PQ minister responsible for cultural communities."

Typical Quebec bashing where all souverainist are wrong.  Irish fought for their country, no problem here, perfectly normal, perfectly legimitate.  Quebec tries to get his own country, thru democratic reform instead of violence (save a few hot heads), and we're divisive, racist, [enter your bullshit here].

For the ethnic part, you are obviously confusing Landry and Parizeau.

I am not confusing Landry and Parizeau, you can refer to Scarlet's 11:40 AM post.
I have no issues with Quebec wanting more autonomy, we are a distinct society within Canada. However, that doesn't mean doing to current minorities what the English did to the French. I do not agree with Landry's politics and I do not agree with the mayor's decision to name this particular station after him. If you feel otherwise, that's fine.
