If you ever thought this city was comparable to NYC or Dubai, I suggest you redo your analysis from the start. Montreal is not a masterplan megalopolis project. Actually, Montreal is exactly this : a city of neighbourhoods / old villages. A vast collection of small local tightly woven groups of people where activities and policies emerge at grassroot level. Thats why it has so many borroughs. And that's why those communities rage when outside promotors think that the space is up for grabs, like an old armada of colonist would do on already occupied land. And that way the city is made is one of the reasons Montreal is, year after year, near the top of most liveable and quality of life indexes and palmares. So in matter of "standing a chance", in the light of where we currently live, I really, honestly wonder where you think we are failing. Because in my understanding, not only do we stand the chance, but we actually are in a very lucky position.
[...] MLB stadium in Montreal? Consultation office pitches more consultation At the same time, the Office de consultation publique supports the re-routing of Bridge St. around a proposed Irish Famine memorial park. MARIAN SCOTT, MONTREAL GAZETTE | Updated: March 9, 2020 In recent years, the Olympic Stadium has hosted Major League Baseball exhibition games that have drawn large crowds. DARIO AYALA / MONTREAL GAZETTE Montreal’s consultation bureau has sidestepped the question of whether a new Major League Baseball stadium should be built near the Peel Basin southwest of Old Montreal. In a report released Monday on the future of the Bridge-Bonaventure district between the Old Port, Griffintown and Pointe-St-Charles, the Office de consultation publique de Montréal said separate consultations should be held on the proposed stadium. “The committee considers that it would be irresponsible to decide on this project on the basis of the partial information available to it,” the bureau said in a 134-page report. It noted that no plans for the stadium had been submitted to it during public consultations on the district that were held in October. “This is a project … whose size and scale require that many different aspects be considered,” it said. However, the report gave the thumbs up to the idea of re-routing Bridge St. around a proposed memorial park commemorating Montreal’s Summer of Sorrow in 1847, when thousands of Irish immigrants infected with typhus died in fever sheds near the present-day Victoria Bridge. Their burial ground is marked by the Black Rock, which stands in a median in the middle of Bridge St. Fergus Keyes, a director of the Montreal Irish Memorial Park Foundation, welcomed the report. “They seem to agree with what we’re saying — that to make it a real world class park, Bridge St. really has to be moved,” he said. “We’re really, really pleased that the office of consultation agrees with our presentation and agrees with the history and the importance of it,” he added. The report also called for diverting commuter traffic from the Victoria Bridge onto the Bonaventure Expressway from Bridge St., which would become a local street rather than a commuter artery. It calls for retaining economic activities related to shipping and food milling, which are key to area’s history, and said that any future housing projects should be complementary rather than dominant. https://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/consultation-needed-on-baseball-stadium-ocpm?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1583777832 Citer Lien vers le commentaire Partager sur d’autres sites

Between Dubai and St-Perdu-De-Nulle-Part there is a middle ground. 20-35 florrs (or even one or two 50-60 floors) in that area would not be New York or Dubai. It would be Montréal. Not all neighbourhoods need to be like the Plateau or Lasalle, having a denser area so close to downtown would fit very well in Montréal and all the people buying in those taller towers wont need to be living in a big house in the far suburbs. e. 4 1 Citer Lien vers le commentaire Partager sur d’autres sites
