Either way I think it’s a ridiculous idea lol.

Maybe not. We could be talking about a system running on rails that is pulled by a cable. Although uncommon, it could be a viable solution ( assuming that it can deal with our winters ). Several historical tramways still run on this system. For a more modern system, a good exemple is the Hogwarts train at Universal in Florida. There is one train at both ends, that they run on a single rail. In the middle, the trains run past each other using a short segment of double track. The track switching isn't done by a switch, but rather, by a double flanged wheel. The cable is a complete loop and in the middle, pullies force the cable to either sides. Its a really cheap solution for a short segment.

Yes that’s the same as the ExpressTram in Detroit’s McNamara Terminal (though it’s an Otis Hovair air cushion train). But why try to test another gadget in our climate, when Westinghouse’s Adtranz’s Bombardier’s Alstom’s GoA4 Innovia APM is a proven workhorse at airports and institutions (and on Singapore’s LRT) around the world. Or maybe just spend the money, bore the tunnel, and use the existing rolling stock and save a modal transfer.
