SameGuy
It’s possible the new generation jets have been exempted; I was out of the loop for 17 months and talk in early 2020 was “sooner rather than later.” A late 717 might cost an extra five grand. Worth it if it’s full (100 or more), not so much if it’s less than half full (<50). But we should talk about this in an Aviation thread. 16 minutes ago, Doctor D said: Air Canada must have a waiver: I have a fight on a 737 Max 8 coming from Vancouver on January 29th that is SCHEDULED to arrive at 12:46. Is it possible the fine is so low that it is not a deterrent?
FrancSoisD
On 2021-12-11 at 7:37 PM, SameGuy said: The airport has never had a “midnight closure.” There is a curfew between 23:00 and 07:00 that restricts operations by larger aircraft (generally any “mainline” aircraft, based on takeoff weight). Airlines operating flights that are running late and will land after 23:00 often have to pay fairly hefty penalties, though these airlines can apply for waivers based on a limited set of circumstances. There is no curfew for smaller aircraft, including regional and business jets, and general aviation. These curfews may be revised in the future as significantly quieter jets become ubiquitous — a CSeries CS300 Airbus A220-300 or A321neo makes much less noise than some regional jets and most turboprops! Notwithstanding the above, what does this comment have to do with this development? Thanks for sharing, as you seem to be amongst the most knowledgeable members of the forum regarding airport activities. (You frigging nerd, heheh! 😅) Now i just want to know more about the consequences of this positive evolution regarding air transport, in part since Via Rail and the fed govt hasn't desired risking directly competing with airlines in "the corridor" (Windsor-Mtl)! I believe earlier departures may accommodate both: - the airport, whenever capacity might become an issue again in the long range, - airlines eager to cut fuel costs, especially for long haul westward flights, as flying earlier allows to avoid more turbulence, since overall wind energy is generally at its peak from mid-afternoon till late evening (hence why morning tornadoes are virtually inexistent late nights and mornings). * * * Regarding your question, prospect residents not necessarily well informed might feel concerned by the level of nocturnal sounds emitted by departing and arriving late / early flights. Hence why any projects near the airport or along the usual landing flights' approach corridor (~237 degrees to runways 24L & 24R) may theoretically take slightly longer to sell / rent, than in most other locations of the island...
SameGuy
Most of the “noise” is over Ville-St-Laurent, Pointe Claire and Beaconsfield. 😉 The single-family homes south of the 20 in Dorval sell quickly and command relatively high prices compared to many other areas on the island. Rocco
Il y a 1 heure, SameGuy a dit : 😉 The single-family homes south of the 20 in Dorval sell quickly and command relatively high prices compared to many other areas on the island. The guy probably bought this 150k in 1988 at the peak of the pink brick craze, raised his 2 children, retired a few years ago and recently bought a penthouse at VSLP or Le Sherbrooke.
