kudos to ADM.. this design is quite nice and it shows that they are thinking about cohesion of new and existing infrastructure/buildings. The hotel addition is reminiscent of the original 1960 structure in both size and aesthetics. It will handsomly balance out the entire extended terminal almost like a mirror image.

 

As someone who travels quite a bit, YUL is the most pleasant airport to use.

New departures hall under construction at Montreal's Trudeau airport

 

The expansion of Montreal's Pierre Elliott Troudeau airport continues, with the biggest construction site under way being a new $250-million transborder departures hall scheduled for completion later this year. Also under construction is a new Marriott hotel. By December concrete work for the building had reached the fourth level.

The latest phase is part of a $700 million expansion, which was launched in 2000 by Aeroports de Montreal. The expansion has already doubled the terminal's capacity, added two new passenger jetties for international flights, and a new arrivals complex.

The new transborder area will give easier access to the 21 U.S. boarding gates and will increase the number of check in counters to 124 from 77, including 44 self-serve booths.

The transborder departures section comprises a baggage sorting room on the main level and a registration and customs clearance hall on the first floor. The new hall also has 1,500 square metres of retail space and 500 new underground parking spaces. The shell of a rapid link train station to downtown Montreal is also incorporated within the new complex.

Engineering companies working on the new transborder hall and hotel include SNC-L/NC as structural engineer, Dessau and BPR as mechanical-electrical engineers, and Dessau as civil engineers. The project manager is ADM. The architects are Provencher Roy, Cardinal-Hardy and Jodoin Lamarre Pratt.
