Merchants not ready to let go of Grand Prix

Tue, 2008-11-18 08:39.

Trudie Mason

Some business owners who profit from the tourists who come into Montreal for the Grand Prix aren't ready to let the race go eventhough the city is. Their merchants associations are working together on a last chance effort to keep the race in Montreal. The St. Laurent Boulevard Development Association, the Peel, Crescent and Drummond Streets Associations and others will talk about their efforts at a news conference tomorrow.

Well, we may longer have the F1 Grand Prix, but those Europeans are snobby trash anyways. Let's work on building our recognition in the much closer United States.

We ought to try and hold a similar number of events as the Indianapolis Grand Prix. The events I listed should more than make up for the lost Euro trash:

- 1st, get Montreal an IRL Race. Toronto got back theirs.

- 2nd, let's upgrade our NASCAR race from the Nationwide series (Tier II) to the Sprint Cup Series (Tier 1)

- 3rd, let's get a race in the American Le Mans Series

-4th, why not try and lure the A1 Grand Prix here?

-5th, for good measure let's get a motoGP race and the Superbike World Championships

-6th, perhaps a race from the Grand American Road Racing Association

-7th, perhaps the Atlanic Championship?

Next, we hold a big party that lasts the whole summer on Crescent Street. Similar to the F1 village, it should have an automotive theme at the center. Perhaps call it the "Montreal Automotive Festival". We could hold our auto show at this time of year as well.

Cette tentative des marchants est bien belle, mais combien de millions$ peuvent ils vraiment aller chercher? Je ne crois pas que ce soit assez!

Je leurs souhaite bonne chance!

Please MTLSkyline refrain from using the euro-trash stereotype here, we really don't need that here.

By the way, all those races are cool and all that, but the city of montreal only permits 3 weekends of race a year on the circuit... ... ...

Absolutely and ridiculously utopist !! I totally agree with you on this !! "Think big, 'stie !!" Let's aim high !! Sky's the limit !! :highfive:

This is even as badly impossible to happen than for the UN to move in MOntréal !! That's why it has to be attempt !! Only the craziest of dreams are worth dreaming !!

but the city of montreal only permits 3 weekends of race a year on the circuit...

By-law can be changed !!

Sorry for the language, I'm a little fired up today that's all. When I'm fired up I tend to let my Irish temper do the talking. :chillpill:
