They were featured on this Spacing Montreal article not too long ago... I think the sad truth is that unless someone shows up with a lot of money, whoever owns these beauties is just gonna let them rot until the city declares them dangerous.

2025-2029 Peel (the building to the south of the Marriott) was purchased on 1999/05/03 for $1,190,000 by Spartacus N V (a corporation whose majority shareholder is a holding company registered in Luxembourg called Rolaco Holding S.A., according to the registre des entreprises). I wonder what they are planning, doesn't really make sense as an investment (ie buying and paying taxes for 13+ years and not collecting rent). Is it protected/historically significant?

Thanks for the great info. Well, this is definitely prime land for a condo tower, but it does blow my mind that they'd wait so long. As far as I know there's nothing special about them that will spark public outrage when (not if!) they go down :(

MONTREAL, Oct. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Gearing up to begin an extensive multi-million dollar renovation, the Residence Inn by Marriott® Montreal Downtown has temporarily closed its doors, effective October 1st. The renovation work will be conducted around-the-clock to revitalize the hotel's guest rooms and public spaces. Located in downtown Montreal's business district, the Residence Inn Montreal Downtown is scheduled for a soft reopening in January 2014.

Renovations will include a complete redesign and replacement of the building's façade. The hotel's new modern exterior design will enrich the aesthetic appeal of the entire block. When the hotel reopens, guests will experience a fully redesigned public space including a bright and inviting new lobby area, Hearth Room® that serves complimentary breakfast daily, and a fully-equipped fitness centre with state-of-the-art equipment. In addition to the revitalized public space, the renovations will include the addition of two floors to accommodate 20 new guest rooms, for a total of 210 rooms.
