Les cégeps pleins à craquer

Les différents cégeps de la région métropolitaine manquent de places à l’heure actuelle, ce qui risque de laisser plusieurs centaines d’étudiants sur le carreau.

Selon le Journal de Montréal, environ 600 étudiants qui viennent de terminer leurs études secondaires ne savent pas quel établissement collégial ils pourront fréquenter.

 

Les demandes d’admission dans les différents cégeps montréalais ont augmenté de 8% par rapport à l’an dernier, une hausse que le Service régional d’admission du Montréal métropolitain attribue à la crise économique. En effet, les retours aux études sont de plus en plus nombreux depuis le début du ralentissement économique.

 

Le ministère de l’Éducation serait présentement à la recherche d’une solution pour les centaines d’étudiants admissibles au cégep qui n’ont pas réussi à trouver une place dans un établissement.

Moi je vien d'etre refuser au CEGEP Vanier... Trop de demande. C'a fait chier!

I thought it was just the English CEGEP's that were overflowing. So this is a capacity problem for both sectors.

 

How about Québec creating a new fully bilingual CEGEP in Montreal?

How about scraping the CEGEP and let people do an additional year of high school and university? You know, concepts that work in 90% of the world.

Je crois que les techniques ont leur place.

moi j'essais de m'inscrire en technique en thanatologie qui est seulement offert a Rosemont pour tout le Quebec, pour renouveler de métier il devrais y avoir 90 diplomés annuellement mais le cours accepte seulement 60 étudiant annuellement et seulement 20 environ obtien un diplome c'est totalement ridicule..

Technical DECs definitely have their place.. but seriously, what is the deal with 2 year "preuniversity" programs? Everyone I have ever met has also wondered the same thing. Such a useless 2 years, especially if one is studying social sciences. The amount of money that goes into pre-university CEGEP programs seems like a big waste on society - Quebec should definitely revise this formula, and just add another year of high school so that people can go on to university directly instead of wasting 2 (or more) years in CEGEPS.

CEGEP pre-university programs are such a waste of time (over half my "diploma" was electives unrelated to my university field of study). It is nothing more than busy-work. Tack on an extra year to high school and tack on an extra year to university. Use that extra year of HS to make sure students know how to write properly (few do!), and to improve their math skills (how many flunk out later because of math??).

Aboilishing pre-university CEGEP programs would create a facilities crisis for the universities. They can't just increase enrolment by 25%. Would McGill take over the John Abbott campus or UQAM take over CEGEP du Vieux-Montréal? This would provoke a huge shake up in university planning in Québec that the government doesn't want to deal with. Good idea but......

 

Same for secondary schools.

J'ai fais mon cours pré-universitaire en cinéma. Je dois avouer que même si j'y ai appris plusieurs choses, de commencer l'université un an plus tôt serait revenu au même, parce que le programme n'est pas pré-requis pour l'université, alors mis à part la question d'avoir une petite longueur d'avance sur les autres, je revois sensiblement la même chose durant la première année d'université.
