The financing of the new Glen Campus superhospital near Vendome Métro took a key step forward Friday after the The McGill University Health Centre completed the sale of $764 million of 34-year bonds in the international market - it is Quebec's biggest public-private partnership financing ever.

 

Scotia Capital was lead manager for the private placement of 6.632 per cent bonds. Repayment of the principal is spread over the 34 year-term.

 

Doug MacDonald, president of Aviva Investors Canada Inc., told Bloomberg News the new bonds are "very attractive" for institutions. "This will be the deal that sets the tone for the market and gets lots of people interested."

 

The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships lists at least 25 federal and provincial infrastructure projects in the proposal stage.

 

In public-private partnerships, governments join with private-sector companies to build and finance big infrastructure jobs -Quebec has several in the road construction sector.

Are those working for slave-like wages in slave-like conditions often unionized?

 

Au sujet du CUSM, je trouve épouvantables les évocations* présentées jusqu'à maitenant. C'est quoi l'inspiration? Commie-block-meets-Miami-Beach-Streamline-Moderne? Le CRCHUM ne me semble pas meilleur en matière de design, vu le mur aveugle le long de St-Antoine, un débarcadère qui va perpétuer la desolation du square viger, un agencement de couleurs apparemment conçu par un daltonien, etc.

 

L’Agence des partenariats public-privé devrait imposer des exigences architecturales plus rigoureuses dans ses appels d'offres futurs.
