Hugh Jackman laments having to diet while filming ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ in Montreal

 

You might think Wolverine would be able to eat whatever he wants, but apparently that's not so. In a new interview with ET Canada, Hugh Jackman confessed that filming "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in Montreal was a nightmare because of the dietary restrictions he had to follow for the role.

"This is the only place I can actually have this gripe," Jackman said. "No one understands what it’s like to be in what is arguably the food capital of the world and literally not eat anything. I can’t tell you how many restaurants I went to with the director, the writer and the other actors and I would literally be passing food out to them, you know, and just eating steamed chicken."

 

Back in 2009, Jackman's personal trainer Mike Ryan revealed the meal plan he used to get the actor in shape for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

"Always get your protein from natural, unprocessed sources where possible," Ryan told Men's Fitness. "Eat six small meals a day rather than three large ones. Drink mainly water. Avoid all processed foods, and that includes anything that says '99 per cent fat-free' or similar.’"

That means Jackman had to skip the foie gras and poutine at his preferred Canadian restaurant, Au Pied de Cochon.

"It’s one of my favorite restaurants," he told Canadiens Magazine earlier this year. "I actually count the dinner I had there once as the greatest dinner I’ve ever had. We started at 7 p.m. and we left at four in the morning. I guess it was a little more than a dinner."

The actor also stopped by the Montreal pie shop Ta pies et supérette during filming in 2013, though something tells us he didn't eat much while he was there. During re-shoots, however, Jackman did return to Quebec with his diet lifted. And, as he told ET Canada, "Man, did I eat."

That makes me happy.

 

Last year when Jackman was on Letterman promoting the Wolverine movie, Letterman asked him about the new X-Men film he was filming (which was Days of Future Past in Montreal), and when Jackman told him they were shooting it in Montreal, Letterman got all excited and they both went off on a tangent about how much they both love the city.

 

We live in a great place! Let's be proud of it
