number of beds is not the only thing to consider in an hospital. Especially in ER.

Most people stuck in ER are there because they are waiting for a bed in another department, and this is where efficiency comes in effect.

Just by having most of the departments under one roof, it will be much easier to move patients around from one to another, and free some space in ER.

Also, with a newer hospital comes newer technologies, which improves the time needed to treat/diagnose someone

One thing I am surprised only 1 or 2 hospitals in the Montreal region have a heliport. Honestly both super hospitals should of had that tossed into the mix.

Honestly if Point Zero can have one, the super hospitals can have one too. Funny thing about that, the guy behind Point Zero wanted to build a helipad in his backyard in Westmount but the city denied the permit for it.

Tout est ici :

Why is the MUHC consolidating its activities onto three campuses?

MUHC activities are currently spread across more than five different sites (Glen ne compte pas, car pour l'instant ce n'est qu'un champ de boue), and its facilities can no longer keep up with modern medicine and science. By consolidating our activities on the Glen, Mountain(1) and Lachine(2) campuses and by putting as many related services as possible at each campus, the MUHC can improve the delivery of patient care. This vision will also develop synergy between clinicians and researchers.

What will happen to the MUHC’s existing facilities?

The Royal Victoria Hospital(3), the Montreal Chest Institute(4) and the Montreal Children's Hospital (5) are part of the city’s heritage and are strategically located in the downtown core. The MUHC is committed to finding new uses for these facilities to enhance Montreal’s vitality and quality of life while ensuring that they integrate into their natural and urban environments.

In terms of the formal process for reuse of the facilities, the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux has the right of first refusal to acquire these buildings for other purposes within the health sector. Other agencies of the Quebec government are next in line, followed by the federal government, Montreal’s city council, and public institutions such as universities. If these official bodies do not acquire the buildings, the facilities will then be offered to the private sector.

What is the Glen Campus?

The Glen Campus is located in both the CDN–NDG borough and the City of Westmount. Its southern border is also adjacent to the Sud-Ouest borough. This site will be the new home of the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Montreal Chest Insitute and the Royal Victoria Hospital, as well as our Research Institute and our new Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

The Glen Campus will be built by a consortium of architects, engineers and other private enterprises.

What is the Mountain Campus?

The New MUHC will transform the Montreal General Hospital into the Mountain Campus.

As downtown Montreal’s only level-one trauma centre, the Mountain Campus will be a critical resource in the heart of our city. With a state-of-the-art emergency room, some of the finest operating suites in the country and a full range of support specialities, the redeveloped Mountain Campus will work in harmony with its counterparts at the Glen and Lachine campuses.

What is the Lachine Campus?

The New MUHC will transform the Lachine Hospital and the Camille Lefebvre Pavilion into the Lachine Campus.

Located in the city’s west end, the Lachine Campus is the newest member of the MUHC family. It will feature single-patient rooms and renovated facilities while maintaing excellence in its three specialties of geriatrics, bariatric surgery and ophthalmology.

Again, do these people not have an effing clue!?

From the article:

Can anyone say "misappropriation of funds" ?

More likely the Royal Vic be be transferred to McGill and the Neuro.

Any sttempt to sell the complex to private developers would be met with a firestorm of protest from a variety of sectors.

By the way, the Neuro was supposed to move to the former Montreal General complex. Pretty sure it will be remaining in its entirety on University Street.

Today the trucks roll onto the Glen Campus of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) to begin preparing the site for the major construction that will take place over the next 51 months. This project, which will bring 2,000 construction workers onto the site for what is one of the largest hospital projects of its kind in Canada, is being developed by the McGill Health Infrastructure Group, a partnership between SNC-Lavalin and Innisfree, headed by SNC-Lavalin. The Glen Campus will regroup The Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal Chest Institute, a Cancer Centre, and the Research Institute of the MUHC in new state-of-the art facilities.

Cameras have been installed on the site with a continuous update of the construction process linked to the MUHC Web site at MUHC.CA webcam. Interested parties can track the progress online and watch the buildings going up over the next four years.

The Glen Campus is part of the MUHC’s $2.25-billion Redevelopment Project at the Glen, Lachine and Mountain campuses, whose goal is to give our healthcare professionals the modern work environment and leading-edge technology to provide patients and their families with the best care for life.

We are pleased that the project is now physically underway and confident that it will be delivered on time and on budget.”
