  1. Thanks for replying! I will check out your answers! I already know and enjoy some of the artists you mentioned. I created the thread mainly because I'm making a video for a personal project and I wanted to add some music from local artists (I will post my video when I finish it). In my search I found this YouTube channel featuring local talent: http://www.youtube.com/user/Mangetaville I particularly like the fact that they tape the videos in well known locations around the city.
  2. I couldn't find a thread about this subject so I'm making it. What are some bands/singers/soloists from Montreal (and Quebec in general) that you like? French, English or any other language is ok. Send even the obvious ones! If there is already a thread about this subject then just point to it and remove this one if necessary Thanks a lot!
  3. My problem is not the browser... but the OS. I cannot even download IE on a Mac. In fact, you cannot download IE on any operative system that is not Windows. You probably didn't know that. If you could, there would be absolutely no problem. Most university departments in THIS CITY do not use Windows. That's why I own a Mac, and that's why I cannot access this service. I know you are not being completely serious, but this is actually a sad, frustrating accessibility FAIL. Edit: Sorry again for taking this too seriously. A side note: IE is the ONLY mainstream browser that works in only one operative system, so it is clearly the WORST option for a browser-exclusive website, if accessibility is wanted. The thing is not that they should pay someone to develop it for the other "exotic browsers," but that they should have made it accessible in the first place. At least for some browser that can be downloaded in any of the main operative system.
  4. It is their fault! Accessibility of their services is the government's responsibility. That's why we pay taxes! EDIT: I own a Mac because most of my university department's computers are Macs and thus it makes things easier for me right now. I know IE is free but it only exists for ONE operative system: Windows. Imagine if this website worked only on Macs. It would not be illegal for them to do it, as it is not an essential service, but that doesn't make it right.

    Garbage Cans

I don't appreciate your pessimism a lot pedepy Most people in this forum are here to get informed, inform others and share ideas about the future of the city. If you feel some things are going too slow for your taste, then get involved! Luckily there are lots of ways to do that in Montreal
  6. On the renderings it does look like a building from the 70's, but I didn't get that feeling from the construction. Is it going to be strange? Yes! Is it going to look cheap? Probably. But if it helps, I don't think it is going to look like those renderings.
  7. I don't think the tram is a good idea. It will be a moving showcase of vandalism. On the other hand the design has to be simpler and feel lighter, otherwise if it's something like these photos, it will look outdated in 5 years.
  8. I will post my ideas for a small volunteer-based anti-graffiti patrol on a new thread once I put them together. I'm thinking of a very organized and initially small-scale system. Maybe I'm being too optimistic by thinking such an organization would make any difference but I guess trying is better than doing nothing
  9. The amount of graffiti tags in Montreal is disgusting, there are many more than in any other North American city I know, and they are incredibly ugly. Toronto has volunteer-based private graffiti removal programs which seem to work pretty well. I wonder why they don't exist in Montreal. I would start one myself with my own money but I haven't found one other person in the city who cares enough to actually do something. Most people I know actually like the tags, while the others just complain...

    Garbage Cans

Hi! I hope this post is not miscategorized. Since I moved to Montreal I have been looking forward to seen these old garbage cans replaced: They are too small, break easily, are always leaking, and most of them have lots of garbage under them which looks really bad (I don't even know how it gets there though I have a few theories). Anyway, in 2007 I found out that Michel Dallaire (the BIXI industrial designer) was to design new benches and garbage cans for downtown: http://www.ledevoir.com/2007/12/17/168881.html In 2008, renderings of the new designs appeared on his website: http://www.dallairedesign.com/flash/index.html And after that nothing happened. Is there any way to know what happened to this? Are they ever going to be replaced?
