I dont hold my breath for this one. At 19 storeys max, it will be quickly forgotten. Anyone still talking about the Ogilvy/Four Seasons mess of a cube? There u go.

I think the most important thing here is not that it is some architectural icon but that it 1) repairs this corner and neighborhood 2)  help makes it worthy of the Golden Square Mile built environment 3) pushes rue de la Montagne forward as the luxury address it seems like it's becoming.   For all of it's flaws, The FS Hotel "cube" added much-needed gloss to the street, it eliminated a parking lot and replaced a hotel that was cheaply built (and was ugly); bringing a FS here to replace Hotel de la Montagne can't be a negative.  

All that said, they paid a lot of money for a lot that has limited density/height. There is no way this can be anything but a luxury product.  Such a product should translate to luxury finishes or the semblance of.   I really don't care about the 19-storey height here... this is not the place for a 40-storey building.

Tout à fait d'accord avec toi. Ce n'est pas l'endroit pour une tour mais plutôt un projet qui s'intègre bien en terme de hauteur. L'important ici est de conserver le coté luxueux que la rue de la Montagne est en train de développer et aussi, surtout, d'avoir un lien intéressant avec le niveau de la rue, une sorte de proximité, c'est vraiment cela le plus important dans ce cas précis.

I really loved Hotel de la Montagne.  The bar downstairs was a greet meeting place, and the rooftop bar was irreplaceable.  RIP.

The rooftop bar was great but the building itself was generic and dull: look down de Maisonneuve and you'll see a half dozen replicas.
