CNNGo visits Montreal in August

This month 'CNNGo' sets its sights on Montreal, exploring the contemporary art scene around 'The Mile End' with local artist Gene Pendon. With summer in full swing, the programme takes viewers to the vibrant and bustling Jean Talon market, and samples the local produce. Talented singer and former child prodigy Nikki Yanofsky welcomes CNN to the internationally renowned Montreal Jazz Festival. And in this high flying city – that many street performers, acrobats and entertainers call home – cameras are there for the opening night of a thrilling new show from 'Les 7 Doigts de la Main.' All that, plus a stroll through the trendy Plateau district, as well as a bike ride over one of North America's most significant waterways.

OK sounds good but what is CNNgo. I assume it is a 30 minutes TV show most probably about travelling and if it is the case then i am wondering if this show will play on the regular CNN channel or some subsidiary station of that network ?

Arty neighborhoods, circus shenanigans and the smokiest meat in the West -- Montreal is CNNGo TV's star this month

The francophone, hippy sister of Toronto is also a playground for the cool and the cultured.

In this episode of CNNGo TV, we show you where to see, shop, eat and indulge in the European side of Canada.

See when to catch the show on the air times below.

Plateau Mont-Royal

The coolest place in Canada, they claim.

Once a run-down working class district, Plateau Mont-Royal, or the Plateau, is often cited as the most charming neighborhood in Montreal.

The francophone borough is flush with groovy designers’ boutiques, galleries, theaters, cafés, restaurants and green spaces. With a flare of bohemianism, it is where the hip and young go, and where many intellectuals and artists call home.

Fonderie Darling

Shilpa Gupta's The Mirror Exhibition in Fonderie Darling's industrial setting.

Founded 10 years ago by Quartier Ephémère, a cultural organization, Fonderie Darling is a contemporary art center born out of the renovation of an old foundry.

As one of the most prominent modern art centers in town, it is not only a gallery space but also houses workshops and residency studios for artists to research, create, produce and exhibit.

745 Ottawa St., Montreal, Quebec, H3C 1R8; +1 514 392 1554; Open Wednesday-Sunday, noon-7 p.m., Thursday until 10 p.m., C$5 entry fee, free on Thursday; http://www.fonderiedarling.org

Jean-Talon Market

Italian cooks at market.

Sitting in the Little Italy district, the traders from the neighborhood give Jean-Talon Market a European flavor.

It's an open-air farmers' market, but movable covers allow it to operate as a heated mall in the winter. The historic market opened in 1933 and has since been providing value-for-money produce and an authentic food experience.

7070 Avenue Henri-Julien, corner of Henri-Julien and Jean-Talon, Montreal QC H2S 3S3; Open daily from 7 a.m., closes at 5 p.m. on Sunday, 6 p.m. on Monday-Wednesday and Saturday and at 8 p.m. on Thursday to Friday; http://www.marchespublics-mtl.com

Les 7 doigts de la main

Two of the seven fingers, Isabelle Chassé and Sébastien Soldevila.

Les 7 doigts de la main appears to be just a contemporary theater group but is actually a blend of music, cabaret, theater and circus group.

The unconventional circus group's name means "seven fingers of a hand," referring to the seven founding directors, also circus artists of the group.

Check out their shows and schedule at their website: 7doigts.com

Schwartz's

The 80-year-old Hebrew delicacy.

Founded by a Jewish immigrant in 1928, Schwartz's has become a foodie's destination on boulevard Saint-Laurent.

Although it provides a range of deliciousness, most of the pilgrims come for one thing -- smoked meat. It is still preserved with a secret recipe of natural herbs and spices, just as it was 80 years ago.

3895 Saint-Laurent Blvd., Montreal, Quebec, H2W 1X9, +1 514 842 4813; opens Sunday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-12:30 a.m., closes at 1:30 a.m. on Friday and 2:30 a.m. on Saturday (hot meat available after 10:30 a.m.), http://www.schwartzsdeli.com
