Canada's largest dairy producer Saputo Inc , which recently won control of Australian dairy Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Company, is hungry for further acquisitions in that country, as well as in New Zealand, Brazil and the United States, Chief Executive Lino Saputo Jr. said on Thursday.

Saputo gave no indication that further big purchases are imminent, however, noting that the company had considered a play for Warrnambool for the past 10 years.

Saputo retourne en Australie

La filiale australienne de Saputo (T.SAP) a peut-être publié la semaine dernière ses derniers résultats financiers en tant que compagnie inscrite en Bourse.

 

La seule raison pour laquelle Warrnambool est encore listée à la Bourse d'Australie est le fait qu'un de ses clients, Lion, détient toujours une participation de 10%.

 

La porte-parole de la société, Mélanie Jolin, a confirmé à La Presse que des dirigeants de Saputo quitteront Montréal vendredi pour un autre voyage en Australie.

 

Il n'a pas été possible de connaître l'agenda du voyage. Toutefois, alimentée par la presse australienne, la spéculation s'intensifie à propos des négociations entre Saputo et Lion.

 

Saputo compte réaliser d'autres acquisitions en Océanie et entend utiliser sa nouvelle plateforme australienne pour répondre à la demande croissante pour des produits laitiers à plusieurs endroits dans le monde.

 

L'action de Saputo a touché durant la séance d'hier son plus haut niveau depuis son entrée en Bourse. Elle a terminé la journée à 54,65$, en hausse de 1 cent.

Mexico's Grupo Bimbo to buy Saputo's Canadian bakery

 

(Reuters) - Mexico's Grupo Bimbo SAB de CV (BIMBOA.MX), the world's No. 1 breadmaker, has agreed to buy the bakery division of Saputo Inc (SAP.TO) in its second Canadian purchase this year.

 

Bimbo subsidiary Canada Bread Company Ltd will pay C$120 million ($103.38 million) for Montreal-based Saputo's bakery, subject to conditions, including the approval of Canada's Competition Bureau, Saputo said on Thursday.

 

The business includes one manufacturing facility in the Canadian province of Quebec, where it mostly makes snack cakes. Saputo's main business is dairy.

 

In February, Grupo Bimbo agreed to buy Canada Bread from Maple Leaf Foods (MFI.TO) for C$1.83 billion. The other dominant Canadian baker is George Weston Ltd (WN.TO), parent of the Loblaw Cos Ltd (L.TO) grocery chain.

 

Bimbo said it expects its new acquisition to generate annual sales of more than C$130 million ($111.87 million) and that it expects to close the deal by the first quarter of 2015. The division earned C$139 million in revenue in fiscal 2014, representing less than 2 percent of Saputo's consolidated revenues.

 

Saputo said it is the largest maker of snack cakes in Canada, and also has modest sales in the United States. Its snack cake brands include Jos Louis and Passion Flakie.

 

Canada's Competition Bureau conducts reviews confidentially and cannot confirm whether it will examine the Saputo deal, spokeswoman Melanie Beauchesne said. The bureau generally must receive advance notice of proposed transactions when assets in Canada, or revenues of the target firm generated in Canada, exceed C$82 million, she said.

 

Saputo shares eased 7 Canadian cents or 0.2 percent to C$32.60 in early trading in Toronto. Grupo Bimbo stock gained 2.5 percent in Mexico City.

Saputo fait une acquisition de 134 M$ en Australie

 

Saputo (SAP) (TSX) a annoncé lundi que sa filiale australienne, Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory, a conclu une entente visant l'acquisition des activités de Everyday Cheese de Lion-Dairy & Drinks,

 

Le prix d’achat de 134,4 millions $ CAN sera payable comptant lors de la clôture de la transaction prévue d’ici mai 2015.

 

Warrnambool deviendra propriétaire des marques COON, Cracker Barrel, Mil Lel et Fred Walker.

 

Everyday Cheese génère des ventes annuelles d'environ 156 millions CAN et compte environ 170 employés.

 

Warrnambool, qui est détenue majoritairement par Saputo, avait indiqué le mois dernier être à l’affut de nouvelles acquisitions en Australie.

 

Saputo est parmi les dix plus grands transformateurs laitiers au monde.
