Interesting quote , but based on a shaky premise. Nobody would suggest that all construction should conform with existing styles. There are vast cities that are so ugly that almost everything should be built anew. Think Calcutta, although it does have some vey nice buildings. Then, think Florence or Amsterdam; compact, unique and beautiful. To rebuild pell-mell would be a crime.

I do agree with your argument. I used to see this quote as a call against immobilism and architectural stuck-upness (if this is a word : ). I don't think it encourage dimissing the past but thanks for sharing your thoughts it's always appreciated. You're the very first commenting this
