As mentioned previously, it's often used as a conversion brand, sometimes even as a placeholder until being converted either to a full Hilton or something else entirely. I am not suggesting that is what is going to happen here, but it is possible. It is odd that both Hyatt and Hilton are both lacking in downtown Montreal at the moment. Yes, Hilton has a Hilton Garden Inn, Embassy Suites, and a Hampton Inn (under construction), but I have to assume a proper Hilton is coming at some point. Hyatt is a little less present in Canada, the Hyatt in downtown Toronto is a former Holiday Inn that is very average. They may be adjusting their strategy for Canada. Marriott seems to be the most present of the big hotel chains in Montreal... Marriott Chateau Champlain, Renaissance, Courtyard, AC Hotels, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn (x2) all downtown. ERJ-Boy Posté(e) 9 décembre 2018 Partager Posté(e) 9 décembre 2018 What probably happened is that Hyatt requires a certain amount of upkeep and investment in their hotels. The franchisee probably did not want to spend that much to renovate, and they chose to rebrand as the lower cost Double Tree. I'm not sure what Hyatt will do. They lost a great location, which is not going to be easy to replace. At the same time, they probably won't open such a large hotel downtown (the Hyatt complexe desjardins is 595 rooms). The days of great central hotels in Canada are over. Unless Shangri La decides to open here (and they won't for the foreseeable future). Rocco Posté(e) 9 décembre 2018 Partager Posté(e) 9 décembre 2018 Travelers paying a premium want small cozy boutique-style hotel nowadays. Grand deluxe hotels are past. Large luxury hotels are getting transformed into lower-standard ones as they will attract a cheaper crowd who doesnt care the boutique-style care. 1 Citer Lien vers le commentaire Partager sur d’autres sites
