what's the point of saving the original building when you end up gutting the interior and changing virtually the entire facade ?

mtlrdp: MartinMtl said it well. Just look at what they did with the Maison du Jazz. They did an oustanding job and i'm confident great work will be done with the Wilder.

 

This is urban renewal at its best!

+ Renovations inside and out

+ New building additions

+ More density

+ Better enclosure for the new public square (Place des Festivals)

+ Preservation of built heritage and integration of new aesthetic elements

I'm sorry but this is much different than the house of jazz which preserved the entire exterior of the building (at a fraction of what this project will cost)..this is like spending $20,000 fixing up a rusted shitbox of a car while you could've bought a brand new car for $17,000, but as long as the government is paying then let's spend spend spend spend

Ils vont préserver ICI AUSSI l'ensemble de l'enveloppe extérieure, dont la façade sur Bleury, qui est de grande qualité. Ils font exactement LA MÊME CHOSE.

J'aimerais garder l'aspect quadrillée de béton sur briques rouges comme motif du Wilder. C'est comme trop dénaturer le style de l'édifice. Mais dans l'ensemble, c'est bon !!!

Évidemment, je doute fortement que le Wilder devienne noir comme sur les rendus... la seule différence esthétique par rapport à l'original semble être l'ajout de l'écran/bannière devant la Place des Spectacles.

If you look closely at the renderings, you will see that physical structure remains intact, the facades are preserved, and only some windows are changed -- in other words, exactly like the Maison du Jazz.

On s'en fout de la facade.

 

Y a pas un chat qui voit la facade de toute façon. Le peu de gens qui marchent sur Bleury n'ont même pas assez de recul pour apprécier la facade.

 

 

L'important est le derrière ,donnant sur La Place des festivals. Cela prend au moins un écran géant. J'aurais même ajouter quelques balcons vers le haut donnant ainsi l'accès à disons une centaine de personnes lors des concerts.

On voit un retrait au dernier étage (celui ajouté) de l'édifice en direction de la Place! Fort probablement un resto ou un bar!
