AT&T buys T-Mobile USA

AT&T announced on Sunday that it has agreed to buy T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for $39 billion in cash and stock, in one of the biggest mergers since the onset of the financial crisis.

 

The deal will dramatically bolster AT&T’s footprint in the country, adding an additional 46.5 million customers.

 

Under the terms of the deal, AT&T will pay $25 billion in cash and the rest in stock. Deutsche Telekom will in turn gain an 8 percent stake in AT&T and a seat on the American telecom giant’s board.

 

“This transaction represents a major commitment to strengthen and expand critical infrastructure for our nation’s future,” said Randall Stephenson, AT&T ’s chairman and chief executive, said in a statement.

 

AT&T’s bid will finally solve the problem facing T-Mobile USA, the smallest of the country’s four major cellphone service providers. Both companies operate on the same wireless standard, GSM. Through the deal, T-Mobile will finally gain a path for the next generation of cellphone data, known as 4G, by using AT&T’s forthcoming LTE standard.

 

AT&T was advised by Greenhill & Company, JPMorgan Chase and Evercore Partners, as well as the law firms Sullivan & Cromwell, Arnold & Porter, and Crowell & Moring.

 

Deutsche Telekom was advised by Morgan Stanley.

Holy crap! The new AT&T going to have 129.23 million customers. It would be like Bell buying out Telus.

Je suis un client de Verizon. Je viens de sortir d'un de leur magasin. Je veux avoir un accès total et permanent à l'internet partout ou' je vais aux USA. Ils m'ont présenté un router miniature sur lequel je peux brancher 5 appareils, il est gratuit avec un contrat de 2 ans à 35 dollars par mois pour 3 Gb par mois, $50 pour 5 Gb par mois. Je vais attendre encore un peu... :-)

Rogers offre ce genre de routeur aussi. Mais mon Galaxy S fait la même chose sans bidule.

Oui, plusieurs telephones intelligents en sont capables, mais la plupart des fournisseurs de service le défend sur leur réseau, est-ce que tu le fais?

Le mien est sur Telus, je l'ai tester, mais je n'ai pas encore eu une situation ou je devais partager la connexion avec 5 personne, donc en général, je branche via USB pour faire du tethering en le rechangeant du même coup

 

 

La seul chose que je reproche à ces bidules, c'est de faire du NAT et dans le cas du module wifi, du double nat, ce qui fait que certain protocole ne passe pas très bien (comme PPTP)

Bah évidemment, ça tombe sur le même forfait que mon forfait data standard ou j'ai 6 GB/mois. Je sais cependant pour l'avoir vu que sur certain iphones, la fonction était barré par défaut, mais il demeure possible d'appeler pour la faire débarrer.
