No. According to the book, "Montreal; The History of a North American City", as early as 1840, a group of businessmen were calling for a link between Hochelaga and Longueuil. This tunnel was indeed proposed in 1880. Apparently, nothing seriously came of that, but ten years later 30 businessmen formed the Montreal Bridge Company. which planned to build a bridge further west, between the Port of Montreal (where I suppose there was more traffic than in Hochelaga, at least at that time)) and Longueuil. This eventually became the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. The Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Bridge–Tunnel, which finally did connect the by-then Montreal Boreau of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Longueuil, is unrelated, with construction beginning much later, in 1960, and opening in 1967. The Motro Yellow Line, initally built for Expo, which connects Longueuil and Berri Street, also opened in 1867. Répondre Afficher la traduction 33 Modifié
