Brace for more burritos, Montreal

 

The undisputed king of burritos in Montreal, Tejano BBQ Burrito, is about to expand. Blackstrap BBQ boss Dylan Kier revealed the big news today. "We're opening a new Tejano on William, across from Le Local. Same concept as our original restaurant, with maybe a bit more seating." The Cité du Multimédia Tejano will be located in a new mixed-use development, and is slated to open by late summer. "We're aiming for September 1," says Kier. Along with Clara Barron, his wife and Blackstrap BBQ partner, and Ryan Bloom, the founder of Urban Bonfire, and a principal in Rustique Pie Kitchen, Kier opened Tejano BBQ Burrito in 2014. The Tex-Mex tribute was an immediate hit in Saint-Henri, and has contributed to the Sud-Ouest neighbourhood's makeover as a hub of culinary diversity.

 

As for the proposed Cité Multimedia Tejano, the idea seems like a no-brainer, and an addition the neighbourhood between Old Montreal and Griffintown will embrace with open arms. In a stroke of clairvoyance, Sarah Musgrave, the former Gazette food critic, pretty much called it back in a 2015 review. "With quality ingredients and a snappy concept, this place has found a sweet spot between slop house and smart business; it’s possible to imagine more of these counters popping up when this place itself starts bursting at the seams." It's good to be popular, Kier modestly acknowledges. "I'm honestly more worried about how busy it's gonna be, than anything else."

Excellente nouvelle ! J'ai hâte de voir comment la place commerciale du 21e arrondissement paraîtra. Aussi, il me semble que tous les buildings près de la Bonaventure aura besoin d'être renouvelés ou refaits après que le projet Bonaventure est terminé... Il reste beaucoup à faire dans ce coin, à deux pas du centre-ville.

Très décu car ce n'est pas le genre de commerce que Prevel nous avait vendu à l'achat de notre unité !

On s'entend que Tejano c'est bien meilleur que presque tous les commerces qui se sont installés en bas des condos à Griffintown quand même... Nous habitons au 21e, et on nous a parlé de commerces plutôt européens à l'achat du condo aussi, mais je suis loin d'être déçu par un restaurant local qui s'installe...? La vie a beaucoup à offrir à part les baguettes et la charcuterie

Exact, ce qui est bien est que Prével privilégie les commerçants indépendants! Pas comme Devimco qui a juste des grosses chaînes dans ses locaux commerciaux dans Griffintown.

 

Je ne crois pas non plus que Tejano soit le seul restaurant du projet. Il me semble avoir lu qu'une personne connue allait ouvrir un bistro.

 

Et de toute façon, ce n'est pas les restos "huppés" qui manquent dans ce coin. Juste en face, il y a le Local. Marche jusqu'à McGill, et c'est plein de restos du même genre

 

Ça fait du bien d'avoir de la variété, car je doute que tous résidents soient capables de se payer un repas au Local à chaque semaine.
