  1. ESTWEST – A Promissing Endeavour at the Heart of Square Children’s Project June 21, 2017 A page of history has turned to leave place for the writing of a whole new chapter: the Montreal Children’s Hospital is now moving, leaving room for the ESTWEST project. Named as a tribute to the wonderful past of the former Montreal Children’s Hospital, the ESTWEST project will breathe new life into the entire neighbourhood and revitalize the area! The project is located at the intersection of Atwater Avenue and René-Lévesque Boulevard, in the Square Children’s area. Rich in history, the site is close to downtown, the Atwater metro station, as well as the former Montreal Forum. It is thus easily accessible. The unique location of this project, just a stone’s throw away from the vibrant cosmopolitan life of the neighbourhood, the rich heritage of Shaughnessy Village and Westmount, offers you a refined lifestyle and incomparable access to everything that makes Montreal so attractive. Also located near Concordia University, ESTWEST will provide access to new services and facilities tailored to the inhabitants of the area. The project will offer many green spaces, including many gardens to enjoy nature, in the heart of the city centre. Overall, the public park and green space will account for more than 30% of the total square footage of the Square Children’s project. Nearby, there will be shops, a hotel, in addition to a cultural centre. In short, everything you can imagine, combined in the same space! In total, nearly 1,400 residential units will be spread out in six innovative towers, designed by the renowned company Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architectes. Discover this new project in the heart of the Square Children’s area! Discover the East Tower and its contemporary design Each condo offers a distinguished interior design to meet your highest expectations and the possibility to personalize your unit. The tower is 27 stories high with a contemporary style and reinforced concrete structure. These exposed concrete ceilings complement the beauty of maple or oak tree engineered floors, depending on the buyer’s preference. The kitchen features a timeless tone-on-tone design, integrating high end quartz countertops and thermoplastic kitchen cabinets of modern color. Classic porcelain ceramic tiles give the bathrooms a distinguished look. The abundance of windows bring natural light inside each unit and from the exterior terraces, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the city, Mount Royal and the St-Lawrence River.

^ True, but you are looking at 10 years from today that a new facility would be in production. Infrastructure upgrades will be included in whatever site they choose.

Ca me surprendrait qu’ils quittent l’ile de Montréal. Une belle entrée vers le centre-ville coin Carrie Derick/Marc Cantin dans l’ancien Technoparc Bonaventure serait le fun, mais l’expansion a Dickson semble plus probable.
  4. Sorry if its a report, I checked a few of the older posts and didn't see this skyline shot

La vente (ou revente) immobilière ne fait pas parti du calcul du PIB, seulement la contruction neuve.
  7. Some details: Patricia Hirsch at Intella Inc. is pre-leasing a new mixed-use at St. Catherine St. West and Atwater Ave in downtown Montreal. Montreal-based residential developer BSR Group is redeveloping the 4014-4022 St. Catherine building to include 120 condominiums along with about 20,000 square feet of office space and 10,000 square feet of street front commercial space designed for restaurant and retail service uses. The project is across from Plaza Alexis Nihon and the AMC Pepsi Forum and near the Atwater Metro Station. The site is also a block from the Dawson College campus. Possession is expected for early 2019 http://devandchains.com/pre-leasing-on-st-catherine-st/
  8. BLUCAP announces a new development in the CORE of downtown Montreal. The new 17-level “mixed use” development project will be located just steps away from the Montreal Bell Centre at 1190 Drummond. Its groundbreaking design will house upwards of 80 micro-apartments, a roof top gym and terrace, 4,000 square feet of ground floor commercial and three subterranean levels of parking. Daniel Shamir, the fund’s managing partner and visionary force has hired the young, award-winning firm ARCHITECURE-MU to give the building “LANDMARK CHARACTERISTICS” and make the building into an iconic structure that will be known for years to come. https://whitehaven.ca/en/news/new-iconic-building-in-the-montreal-golden-square-mile/
  9. They already owned the vacant lot, its all the surrounding buildings that they purchased. It listed as a transaction in this report http://www.collierscanada.com/en/commercial-property-research/2017/montreal-office-market-report-q1-2017#.WR9A9Ovyuhl 150 million for 357,651 sq feet
  10. Square footage is not the only factor, there are over a dozen in the US that are larger than Montreal, not just the 3 bigger than Boston. Jacob K Javits is smaller. Also, international implies many countries, not just one. So when 2500 people attend American College Personnel Association in Montreal, they are considered int'l, but had it been in the US, it would be local, as all or most of the delegates are from the US. Just a quick glance Dates : 6 au 9 mars 2016Organisé par : American College Personnel AssociationParticipants attendus : 2 500 Dates : 31 mars au 3 avril 2016Organisé par : American Counseling Association & Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy AssociationParticipants attendus : 2 800 Dates : 7 au 9 avril 2016Organisé par : American Bar AssociationParticipants attendus : 2 000 It's not a question about being pessimistic, it about not boosting ourselves up with alternative facts.
  11. Dreamforce has 170,000 delegates, that is seperate from the seminars that anybody can buy tickets for. They are members, resellers and agents, but either way that is not the point. The point is that 37,000 is the highest number of int'l delegates for members of the ICCA in North America. Since almost no convention center in the USA is a member, we have no idea how well that number really stacks up. Member venues in USA Hawaii Convention Center/AEG Honolulu, HI, U.S.A. Massachusetts Conv. Cen. Authority/ John B.Hynes Veterans Memorial Conv. Cen Boston, MA, U.S.A. Massachusetts Conv. Center Authority / Boston Convention & Exhibition Center Boston, MA, U.S.A. MGM Grand Las Vegas, NV, U.S.A. Radisson Blu Aqua Chicago Chicago, IL, U.S.A. No McCormick Center, no Las Vegas Convention Center, no Orange County Convention Center, nothing in New York, nothing in California. We are number 1 on a list that is not serious at all.
  12. No, ,you don't understand. It is comparing int'l delegates for member convention centers only. Since there are only 5 members in the USA, the statistic is meaningless. Since McCormick Center in Chicago is not a member, comparing Montreal to Chicago is a falsehood. This doesn't even cover that American attendees are considered int'l in Canada. What cities care about is that non local people attend and book flights, hotels, eat in restaurants etc. Its not that I think Palais des Congres is doing a bad job, its that we are not the most popular North American destination for int'l visitors. Like I mentioned, Dreamforce has 170,000 attendees. They don't break it out, but I would surmise ~30% are international. That one event would have more than Montreal in one year. Just think of other major event that probably attract large int'l numbers - CES, Detroit Auto Show, SEMA,
  13. I don't know how stupid statistic like this makes the news. It is only comparing members of the ICCA. So for Chicago, the Palais de Congres is being compared to the Radisson Aqua Blu, not McCormick Center. There are actually only 5 venues in the USA that are members. Dreamforce alone in San Fransisco had 170,000 delegates, that is 5 times what Palais de Congres did in one year by one event.
  14. Not necessarily the Waldorf itself, but Monit the developer has now finalized the acquisition of the entire block on Sherbrooke (1496-1538) and the corner block of Guy (2135, 2153-57 + 2125-27). Disputes with some of the owners had held this project up. Total purchase was close to 150 million. They already own 2155 Guy. So the 1500 Sherbrooke lot now has no barriers to being developed.
  15. What HQs have moved from Montreal to Toronto in the last 20 years? CAE and Valeant moved the other way. Just for interest to show the change in trend, according to Stats Can in 1999 Toronto had 826 Head Offices with 49,600 employees, Montreal had 596 with 36,700 employees. By 2009, Toronto had 793 and Montreal 443 with 54,000 and 32,800 employees respectively. So a huge drop in staff in Montreal. In the latest number just released a few weeks ago for 2015, Toronto is at 690 and Montreal at 381 with 75,000 and 42,200 employees respectively. So, Toronto growth has been strong, Montreal saw a massive turn around and across the board companies are getting larger.

INOCUCOR RAISES $38.8 MILLION SERIES B TO INVEST IN R&D, US EXPANSION http://betakit.com/inocucor-raises-38-8-million-series-b-round-to-invest-in-rd-us-expansion/ Montreal-based Inocucor, a company producing sustainable biological crop products, has just closed a $38.8 million Series B round. The first close is led by TPG Alternative and Renewable Technologies (TPG ART), a late-stage capital venture vehicle focused on companies reducing environmental impact and promoting resource efficiency. Inocucor uses a patented fermentation process to make soil and plant optimizers that are safe for people and the environment. The products are meant to improve crop yields, shorten growing periods, and create healthier, more resilient soils for farmers and greenhouse growers. The funds will go toward opening a US-based headquarters and commercialization office, increasing manufacturing capacity at Inocucor’s Montreal R&D facility, and adding managerial and scientific expertise to Inocucor’s staff. Inocucor’s president and CEO Donald R. Marvin said that the specialty agriculture sector has a need for sustainable ways to help growers improve their crop yields. “Our corporate strategy includes staking our claim as a market leader in this emerging segment by growing organically with our own proprietary microbial consortia technology, while also pursuing strategic acquisitions and product development partnerships in North America, Latin America, and Western Europe,” said Marvin. In June 2016, Inocucor raised $6 million in its Series A round. Several of the same investors participated in both rounds, including Cycle Capital Management, a Montréal cleantech venture capital fund which made its first investment in Inocucor in 2013; Desjardins Innovatech, another original investor; and Philadelphia-based Closed Loop Capital, which invests in agriculture technologies. “Inocucor has come a long way since our first investment. It has products on the market, being used by growers who are experiencing positive results. The promise we saw in those early days is coming to fruition,” said Andrée-Lise Méthot, founder and managing partner of Cycle Capital Management. Inocucor is developing new products including bio-control formulas that combat diseases which significantly affect the economy, such as in strawberries, tomatoes, and potatoes.
