La démolition suivie par la construction d’une nouvelle bâtisse est une bonne nouvelle.

 

Tous les étages sauf le rez-de-chaussée étaient à l’abandon depuis quelques années, on peut surement s’attendre à mieux. Il est difficile d’avoir pire que ce que l’on vois sur cette photo.

Dangerous?!

 

I've walked by there (literally) thousands of times, at all hours of the day (2am, 5am, 4pm, 9pm, you name it).

Doesn't feel dangerous at all.

 

Are YOU being serious? I am speaking from experience, but take a look at those links.

This happened to me last year, when twelve of these kids jumped us at around 10PM on a hot Friday night. I basically couldn't do a thing because they were all underaged and I didn't feel like going to jail. I was lucky and got out with a bruised ego and lots of spit to my face. Since then we usually come back home via Sherbrooke or Maisonneuve.

 

Don't get me wrong, I know it's not Montreal's biggest problem at the moment. It's a problem nonetheless and the worst thing to do about it is to turn a blind eye. There is a street gang problem at that intersection, plain and simple.

There's a nice big crane on site, portable but still impressive. Things seem well on their way. Didn't think they'd preserve the facade.

Anyone know what's going up here? Right opposite Concordia's EV building & immediately next to the Pharmaprix.

 

The old apartment building was completely gutted & the facade preserved (why? who knows .. it's hideous)

 

There's a crane on site now - I'm assuming more condos are being built.

This area isn't too bad, just have to avoid the McDonald's with all the f*cking teenagers.

 

I wonder why they bothered to keep the facade ?

Here's what corner Guy/Sainte-Catherine looked like in 1974 (before being demolished). You can see a tiny bit of 1486 on the left.

 

 

Seemed like was quite a mighty building in its prime! Probably a textile shop of some kind?

Wow, much better than today. I love the signs. Cocal-Cola, Delicatessen, Restaurant etc.... very lively !
