C'est curieux. Si c'est rentable, pourquoi n'y a-t-il personne pour le construire à ses frais?

The group has revealed it wants to the city to pay for and own the $400 million arena.

 

The Katz Group says during Thursday's open house, there will no talk of possible funding models.

 

But it appears more Edmontonians continue to question how the project will be paid for.

 

"I would love to see this in Edmonton but then I haven't heard much about the cost and I'd have to sit down and listen to them talk about how it's going to be paid for," said resident Barb Ootes.

 

Black says while he recognizes that people want to learn more about funding, they are still in the process of establishing a funding model for the project.

 

Some city councillors have questioned whether the public's questions can be answered in time with the Katz Group's goal of completing the arena by 2014.

What is the current funding model and where does Daryl Katz's commitment to invest $100 million into the development of a downtown arena fit into it?

 

Like every other aspect of this project, the funding model is a work in progress and will ultimately be determined in consultation with the City, province and other stakeholders. But what we have in mind is a model in which private sector development generates tax revenues for the City that the City can then use to pay for the cost of financing the construction of the arena. We estimate the City would receive enough revenue under this model to cover its portion of the costs to finance the arena's construction. More than that, once the City's financing costs have been paid back, the development will continue to generate revenues to help the city fund other priorities for decades to come.

 

In other words, the arena creates the draw for the private-sector investment, and the private sector investment generates the revenues to pay for the arena. This model is consistent with the recommendations included in the Mayor's Leadership Committee report and with the commitment Daryl Katz made prior to acquiring the Oilers to "contribute his time, energy and on the order of $100 million towards the development of a new downtown arena following his acquisition of the Edmonton Oilers." (Katz Group press release, March 25, 2008)

Je ne suis vraiment pas sûr que le Fédéral va emboiter le pas! Comment vont ils expliquer à Edmonton et Calgary (deux villes qui ont déjà des équipes de la LNH) qu'ils n'auront pas une cenne pour rénover/construire un nouvel aréna, mais qu'à Québec, il gouv est prêt à investir 175 million$...

 

Imaginez si c'était l'inverse qui se produisait?!? Comment est ce que la population du Québec réagirait???

J'imagine que le hypothese est que Harper peut acheter quelques sieges dans la region 418 qu'il ne detient pas deja, et que les Albertains vont etre en colere, mais pas suffisament pour les inciter a voter Liberal...

S'ils refusaient de payer, je serais pour la première fois d'accord avec les Conservateurs!

 

Mais je pense qu'ils vont finir par trouver une entourloupette.......

Je suis contre ce projets subventionné par nos impots.

 

Si le québec et le canada avait un déficit 0, je serait pour. Mais la, on a vraiment d'autre chose à faire.

 

Perso, je paye mes dettes, j'emprunte que lorsque c'est nécessaire et j'évite le crédit. Cependant ce n'est pas le cas de la majorité de la population. Combien dans mon entourage en sont a leur 2 ou 3ième réhypothèque sur leur maison/condos pour subvenir à leur train de vie au dessus de leurs moyens... Doit-t'on vraiment s'étonner ?

 

Le gouvernement lui, ne fait pas attention. Ça fait des années qu'ils n'a pas fini avec un surplus. Et on remonte encore plus loin pour trouver un vrai surplus sans magouille.

 

Tellement que je me demande si j'était né la dernière fois que c'est arrivé...

 

Donc, je suis pas contre le projet tel quel, mais son financement. Ah oui, et je hais les nordiques
